2025 St. Louis SuperMotocross Recap

Titles remain anyone's to claim for the 2025 SuperMotocross Championship though the 250 class got a major shake up on Saturday in St. Louis.

Round 2 of the three round playoff series resembled much more a regular Supercross track than the usual hybrid SX/MX that highlight racing conditions for SMX yet longer straights and lack of whoops did boost overall speeds. Riders gained double points for how they finished which wholly benefited the two at the top of the box.

In the 450 class, Jett Lawrence retains a slim lead in the playoffs after finishing second overall on a (4-1) day. His brother Hunter Lawrence was untouchable in the first Moto and took third in the second to win the round. He moves to within six points of Jett in the standings and another overall win with triple points allotted for the final round ends Jett's SMX Championship run. These two tied in total points last year with Jett taking the 2024 SMX title on the tie-breaker.

Also in the mix resides Eli Tomac who managed to keep Jett Lawrence from passing in the first Moto and Hunter Lawrence in the second to finished 3rd and 2nd respectively for third overall. Tomac lost the tie-breaker to Jett Lawrence for second costing him four points. Ken Roczen finished fourth overall thanks to a (2-5) night and Cooper Webb (8-4) rounded out the Top 5.

In the 250 class, Doughboy got rolled.

Certainly, the decisive winner of the first Moto did not see this coming. On the first lap of Moto 2, Levi Kitchen took Doughboy high with an attempted take-out in a berm only to send both to the floor. The Red Plate holder and two-time SMX champ barreled over the top of the berm while Kitchen hit the dirt on the riding side. Kitchen got back on his bike first while Doughboy fumbled a bit with a Tuff Block before resuming.

The result?

Jo Shimoda, battling through an illness, claimed the overall by finishing second in both Motos. He gets the Red Plate for the final round with a 10 point lead and a repeat of St. Louis in Las Vegas secures the 2025 SuperMotocross 250 class championship regardless of the overall. Seth Hammaker, also in the mix at 14 points back, finished second overall on a (3-3) day and Nate Tharsher (6-4) rounded out the podium. Doughboy (1-14) took sixth overall and Kitchen (5-12) finished 10th.

All fun things must come to an end as the racing season culminates Saturday at the Strip at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
