2025 Indianapolis Supercross Recap
Easy for the winners, routine for the fans.
Round 9 of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN had a couple of highlights but the spotlight mostly shone on the two dominating near wire-to-wire finishes in each class.
In the 450 class, Justin Barcia grabbed his first Holeshot of the year and enjoyed the lead for...
...less than 60 seconds.
Cooper Webb easily got around in a turn and never looked back. The points leader was on the throttle from the start enabling him to dial it back late and enjoy his first career victory at Indianapolis. No contest, to say the least.
"That was an awesome Main Event for me probably one of the easier ones in my career," Webb said. "I got a good lead and could ride the pace. When Chase (Sexton) went down it really opened up the cushion. It was an awesome race. I executed my start, rode great laps in the beginning and just put it in cruise control."
Sexton never got that close and arguably even without the minor crash likely would not have caught Webb as he passed Barcia for second after about five minutes but never made much of a push towards the front. A tip over in the sand with about five minutes left dropped him an additional 10 seconds back paving the way for Justin Cooper to take second for his second career 450 class podium.
Webb's victory pushes his points edge to 15 over Sexton entering the season's only weekend off and with eight rounds remaining. Webb, a 2-time Supercross Champion, has three wins and three second-place finishes in the last six rounds.
Ken Roczen, winner of Daytona the previous week, got tangled up at the start when Jason Anderson went down and managed to race back to seventh. A points hit but also salvaging some to stay within reach of first place.
The 250 class pitted East vs. West in the first of three combined class shootouts and there was no question who ruled this night.
East rider Seth Hammaker grabbed the Holeshot and the next thing you knew he took the checkers. One of the more dominating wins of the season from either 250 coasts.
"What an unreal feeling. My second win of my career and it's been a while since I stood at the top step of the podium so it feels amazing," said Hammaker who last won at Daytona in 2021. "Got myself off to an excellent start. Tried to sprint away those first couple of laps. When you're out there in the lead I had a little bit of a gap but it's a little challenging to stay focused."
Tom Vialle, the reigning 250 East class champion, had no trouble nailing down second and as a result takes the Red Plate from Max Anstie who endured a bad start and finished seventh. Anstie, the opening round winner for the 250 East who got robbed of a second-round win in Detroit thanks to a Red Flag thrown with seven seconds left, has finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the last two rounds.
Hammaker's win pops him into third in the East strandings, just 11 points from the lead. RJ Hampshire, winner of Daytona finished fourth. Three of the top four finishers in the East / West Showdown hailed from the East, arguably one of the most stacked 250 class fields in quite some time.
Chance Hymas went down late in the race after landing on a tuff block coming down off the over/under bridge dropping him to 21st. He falls from third in the standings to sixth.
No heavy points shakeup for the 250 West, though Julien Beaumer fell further from the top spot after an eighth place finish.
