2025 Philadelphia Supercross Recap

That was close.

No, not the racing.

Despite early rains, riders enjoyed a dry track, or at least a drier track for Round 13 of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross season at Lincoln Financial Filed in Philadelphia allowing for race craft and skill to dominate rather than mud like the previous week in Foxborough.

And right on cue, Chase Sexton continued his career defining late season domination with his fourth win thereby cutting Cooper Webb's lead to 12 with four races left.

The opening salvo in the 450 class gave Justin Barcia the Holeshot with Ken Roczen just behind him, but Barcia failed to nail a turn on the first lap because of a brake issue and rode off the track. Roczen, riding with torn shoulder ligaments and a bum ankle, held his own for much of the race as Webb fought his way from seventh and Sexton from fifth.

Joey Savatgy briefly gave second-place some love before succumbing to Malcom Stewart and Sexton nearly simultaneously after four minutes, and about 30 seconds later fell behind Webb. Another 30 seconds or so later Sexton got around Stewart for second and even less time passed before Webb took over third.

Roczen, Sexton and Webb...

Thus the Top 3 riders in points took control for the rest of the evening pulling away from the field. However, Roczen, third in the standings, was unable to keep the top pace giving up the lead to Sexton with about eight minutes on the clock and a minute later Webb made the pass for second.

Sexton, Webb, Roczen...

From there, Sexton had little trouble closing out the race holding off Webb, the points leader, and gaining much needed traction on the 2-time Supercross Champion.

"Five rounds to go (including Philadelphia), it's time to make or break. I felt great all day," Sexton said. "That's how you do it, 1-1-1-1. Looking forward to the next race. Today was awesome, a good dry track not like last weekend. Today was a good step in the right direction."

If Sexton wins out, with Webb placing second, Sexton ties Webb in points to end the season and secures the 450 class title on the tie-breaker. Both have four wins on the year.

The 250 class featured the second of three East / West Showdowns and a Red Flag.

Dax Bennick went down early and officials stopped the race with 12 minutes 26 seconds on the clock leading to a full restart because the leaders had not completed three laps. A blow to Seth Hammaker who was leading but a boon for RJ Hampshire who crashed on the opening lap when Coty Schock fell on him in the first turn.

Hampshire took advantage and grabbed the Holeshot for the restart, Hammaker in second. Cole Davies, coming in on hot after his win in Seattle, moved forward from fourth getting in to third after four minutes then started battling Hammaker for second ultimately making the pass stick with about 10 minutes on the clock and it wasn't long before the rookie passed Hampshire for the lead.

Davies, arguably now the best rider in the 250 West class, easily took his second straight win, moved into second in the 250 West standings and closed the points gap to 17 on the now second best rider in the West.

"I literally grew up watching all the guys I'm racing right now," Davies said. "It's a big stage out here, a lot of people watching but I try to focus on myself and two (wins) in a row, I'm stoked, it's been a long journey to get to where I am."

Julien Beaumer, endured a bad start to finish 12th but the 250 West rider falls to third in the standings, 26 points back. With two rounds left for the 250 West class, starting in Denver and culminating at the finale in Salt Lake City, Davies and Beaumer have a hill to climb if either wants a shot at the regional title.

As for the 250 East, Hamsphire took third overall and Hammaker fourth giving those two the Red Plate with three rounds remaining while dropping reigning champion Tom Vialle to third, two points out after he finished sixth. East riders have three rounds remaining.

The Northwest swing for Supercross continues with Round 14 on Saturday at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
