In the 250 class, he who-we-are-forbidden-to-name-because-of-a-fun-social-media-post-half-a-year-ago won the overall and the 250 class title. It was a foregone conclusion, though, Jo Shimoda had an outside shot if Doughboy encountered a really rough day.

Both 250 class Motos brought out the Red Flag. In the first race, it was thrown at 28:05 mark which meant a full restart. It didn't matter for Tom Vialle who grabbed the $600,000 Holeshot in the first attempt and took it again for the it-counts race. Buuuut, he went down on the outside of a corner losing his front end in some soft dirt, relinquishing the lead. He ultimately dropped outside the Top 10 and did not start the second Moto. After a fairly successful stint in the United States which included back-to-back 250 East class Supercross titles, Vialle who hails from France, returns overseas to race the MXGPs in the 450 class. Au revoir, we will certainly miss your presence.

Rookie Cole Davies, who returned to racing a week earlier after sitting out from injury sustained in Supercross, took the lead and held on for about 10 minutes when he got passed and passed again, dropping to third.

The 1-2-3 train of Doughboy, Shimoda and Davies crossed the checkers clinching the title for the rider crossing the finish line first. Quoting that guy:

"When I want to win, I win and that's what I do. That's four (championships) in a row. I'm stoked to be back-to-back outdoor champ."

Alas, he did not get the Moto win, however. Doughboy and Shimoda jumped on a Red Cross flag and docked a position each. This gave Davies the win. Weird, wild stuff.

Moto 2 also raised a Red Flag after Julien Beaumer went down hard suffering a concussion. This time at the 23:32 mark resulting in a staggered restart which means some guy runs along the starting gate with one hand outstretched to his left and a flag in the other outstretched to his right. How soon before a rider jumps "the start" (maybe the one hidden behind the Doghouse) and mows over that guy?

Doughboy was already leading, which he held, as Shimoda raced behind him. A good race to watch if you had better things to do on a Sunday afternoon. Fast forward to the end and you missed absolutely nothing, huh! Levi Kitchen ended his season on a high note taking third and third overall.

Shimoda takes second for the season and Garrett Marchbanks got the third-place trophy.

450 Class

Jett Lawrence clinched the 450 class title a week earlier but that did not give way to him mailing in the final race. A (1-2) day gave him the overall as well as an exclamation on the season! If not for an injury last year, Lawrence would have likely celebrated a three-peat this year.

"It feels really good, I'm super happy," he said. "Hunter (Lawrence) pit me on that second Holeshot (but) happy with the season. Beggars can't be choosers. I'd love for it to be three, we'll still take two. We have injuries in this (sport) and we got to deal with it. A good way to end it."

Brother Hunter indeed grabbed the Unsponsored Holeshot in Moto 2 and led the way. His (3-1) day gave him second overall where he also stood on the Championship podium.

Justin Cooper took third overall on a (2-4) day and fell seven points short of taking third for the season. Eli Tomac took eighth overall on a (5-8) day, just enough to keep his hold on third place for the season.

However, Cooper did lock in the #1 seed for the SuperMotocross playoffs which begin in two weeks. Jett Lawrence locked in at #2 and Malcom Stewart grabbed the #3 spot. The 250 class Top 3 for SuperMotocross reflects how the Motocross season ended.

The three-round playoff series resets all combined points gained from the Supercross and Motocross season with the top seed entering this racing spectacle with 25 points, second with 22 points, third with 20 points, fourth with 18 points, fifth with 17 points and so on thereafter, just like Motocross points.

Round 1 offers the regular amount of earned points (see Motocross), Round 2 doubles those points and Round 3 triples. zMax Dragway hosts the opener on Sept. 6 in Concord, NC.
