2025 Seattle Supercross Recap

Cooper Webb used a table top to propel into the lead on the final lap then held off an incoming Chase Sexton on the final turn to take the checkers for Round 11 of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross series on Saturday in Seattle at Lumen Field.

Webb extended his lead by three over Sexton in the 450 class Championship now at 11 with six rounds remaining.

Webb, a two-time Supercross Champion, grabbed the Holeshot but his efforts to make it a wire-to-wire win didn't last long as Ken Roczen took an inside line making a neat pass by Webb for the lead after four minutes. Roczen racing with torn shoulder ligaments looked to have the gas for the win as he held firm and closed off multiple attempts by Webb. Their cat and dog fight allowed Sexton to close in and join the fray.

With less than nine minutes left, Sexton made his move riding between both riders and passing for the lead. Sexton then began to pull away. This seemed to knock the sails off Roczen as he quickly succumbed second to Webb and dropped to fifth. Sexton and Webb distanced themselves from the field with Sexton looking rejuvenated after his win the week before and Webb just hanging on.

But make no mistake - because if you do - Webb, who has made a career of stalking and making late race passes, usually takes advantage and he did even when making a mistake of his own. Just a fender or so behind, Webb ran into trouble in the rhythm section giving breathing room for Sexton who, seconds later, slowed up.

Webb reeled in Sexton as the two headed down the track then Webb rolled the throttle flying into the air over a triple, ahead of Sexton and into the lead with half a minute left. Sexton quickly responded keeping it closer around the turn but Webb got both tires down on a table top and took the lead. Sexton tried an inside line on the final turn only to have Webb slam that door shut, forcing Sexton to the outside and no chance for the win.

"I really wanted that (win)," Webb said. "It was so gnarly I wish people could get a POV of the track, and the ruts and the lappers. One of the gnarliest tracks I've ever ridden. That was an absolute slugfest, two of the best guys right now just going for it. I couldn't let him get two and a row, that's for sure.

"This is strictly business."

Though losing the lead late and dropping eight points back to 11, Sexton displayed confidence postrace saying he's still in a good spot for the Championship race.

Aaron Plessinger finished third and Roczen fourth thanks to a miscue by Justin Cooper when he jumped onto the tuff blocks with about four minutes left and dropped to sixth. Dylan Ferrandis rounded out the Top 5.

The 250 West class didn't disappoint either.

Rookie Cole Davies grabbed the Holeshot, lost the lead a few turns later to Julien Beaumer but took an inside line shortly later to get the lead back and held it for good to secure bis first career Supercross victory becoming the 10th winner in 11 combined 250 East / West rounds this season.

"It's been a long journey a lot of work to get here," Davies said. "I'm just stoked. I feel like this one has been long overdue. I'm stoked to get this one done. I needed that."

As for those he left behind? Some fireworks popped off and the cementing of a rivalry between Beaumer and the rider who was arrested for reckless driving the previous week.

The Arrestee, also the 250 West points leader, went down early in the race and had to fight his way up front from ninth, but not before a few run-ins with Jo Shimoda. Fighting for fifth-place, Shimoda held off the Arrestee for a time, even squishing him into a berm to prevent a pass, ultimately losing the lead before a hard side swap to get the lead back. However, the Arrestee thus prevailed on a hard throttle roll to take fifth, pull away and hunt down Coty Schock who veered left on a jump with about five minutes left and landed on the tuff blocks (a prime example of tuff blocks saving a rider's season, by the way.)

As a result, the Arrestee slipped into fourth. Meanwhile Beaumer and Garrett Marchbanks held their own tit for tat vying for second-place and with three minutes left, Marchbanks made the pass for second (Davies way out front by now) and pulled away. That left Beaumer to contend with the Arrestee.

As time expired, the Arrestee caught up to Beaumer, made an aggressive bike hitting pass and took over third and securing the final podium spot. Afterwards, Beaumer and the Arrestee were jarring helmet to helmet as the Arrestee slapped Beaumer's helmets after Beaumer grabbed the Arrestee's helmet and eventually the two went their sperate ways.

But it wasn't over.

Postrace, the Arrestee commented how Beaumer posted his home address on social media (apparently Beaumer did not redact the address shown on the arrest report) and separately Beaumer said of the aggressive pass, the Arrestee has one coming for him in Philadelphia.

Maybe NBC should revitalize the old "Must See TV" campaign.

But retribution waits, because Supercross Round 12 heads further east than the City of Brotherly Love to Foxborough, MA nio Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
