2025 Denver Supercross Recap

So...

How about that 250 West class race?

Cole Davies probably learned a lesson and just might have earned a wealth of fans. As for the other guy? He won. The championship too. But trophies gather dust.

Two Championships toed the line for Round 16 of the 2025 Monster Energy Supercross series on Saturday at Empower Field in Denver but outside a first turn pile-up, a contender running out of fuel, another getting a flat tire or one rider sending another off the track in the waning moments, both titles were widely expected to get resolved at the final round in Salt Lake City.

Davies, with an outside shot at the 250 West title entering 17 points back with two rounds to go, grabbed the Holeshot and never looked back. And, perhaps he should have. Behind him, the eventual title winner started in third, worked his way into second with an easy clean pass in a corner on Michael Mosiman with less than eight minutes remaining then he slowly cut into Davies' once sizeable lead.

The eventual title winner needed Davies, also his teammate, to finish fifth-place or lower to claim the 250 West class title otherwise this Championship fight heads to the final round. As the clock ticked down, the eventual title winner got on Davies' fender but the rookie held firm and his place up front. But as time ran out, Davies crossed the finish line jump signaling two laps left then a few turns later the eventual title winner ran Davies high in a corner, sideswiped him and sent Davies over the berm and off the track into what looked like a pit.

Davies struggled to get back on the track thanks to a tuff block and the awkward off-track area but finally resumed in fifth, where he'd finish. Exactly what the title winner needed to secure the 250 West Championship. Davies arguably left the door open for the high-side but the rain of boos coming from the crowd said plenty, as did what the title winner declared postrace.

"I want to congratulate Cole, (but) two laps to go I wanted that win, I was going to do anything for it," the title winner said. "This means a lot to me cause people doubted me all the way telling me I was all hype coming into Supercross and Motocross.

"They just mad...they got to deal with it, if you don't like it, you can suck it. We the champ now. Let's go baby!"

Multiple 450 class riders including Joey Savatgy, who knows a thing or two about losing a title thanks to an aggressive pass, gave a distraught Davies pats of encouragement trackside. Afterwards, Davies owned the defeat.

"Got a good start and focused on building a bit of a gap but I got caught up on some lappers and should have capitalized better," he said.

Note: Several months ago, MotoSport received a verbal cease-and-desist order from the title winner's camp that we no longer mention or discuss him after we posted a photo of the title winner on social media asking our followers to "Caption This" for a chance to win a MotoSport gift card. Now you know the reason for not calling the title winner by name which makes it a bit hard when writing Supercross race recaps. And until his camp lifts that order or he stops winning, we will continue to refer to him as something else other than by his name.

OK, then. The 450 class.

Chase Sexton destroyed the field and Cooper Webb for his sixth win but he remains nine points back of Webb entering the final round.

Maybe we'll get a redux of the 2017 Ryan Dungey / Eli Tomac affair for the finale on Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City.
