2026 Los Angeles SuperMotocross Recap

It wasn't the crash, it was what happened after the crash.

The second round of the 2026 SuperMotocross Playoff series held Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, CA had some notable runs in both classes but it wasn't until a few minutes left in Moto 2 of the 450 class when the real entertainment began brewing.

With Hunter Lawrence (4-1) already checked out for the win, Jorge Prado, Ken Roczen, Cooper Webb and a rookie battled not just for placement in the race but where they finished determined the overall and, more importantly, total points as this round doubled the pot, i.e. the winner takes 50 rather than 25, 44 to second place and 40 for third, etc.

The rookie having already passed Roczen and then Prado for second crashed in the sand with about three minutes left on the clock perhaps succumbing to pressure from Prado who was closing in. The crash handed Prado second, Roczen still in fourth was hot-incoming and sideswiped the rookie on the pass while Webb, in fifth before the rookie's dismount, picked up fourth.

Already back on his bike, the rookie made a charge in the very next corner and in a bump and run pass gone wrong dumped Webb - also his teammate - to the floor. Webb (5-5) didn't lose any more ground and finished fifth for fifth overall. His anger still simmering, Webb had some choice words post-race.

"I was pissed. I'm not going to lie," Webb said. "I'm all for aggressive racing. I think the lack of respect with the kid is the common problem. He has no respect for anybody else. I got one more race with this team and I'll make hell sure he don't win this thing that's for sure. It'll be an interesting week."

The veteran Webb was later seen entering the team trailer where an audible scuffle took place before he left the trailer and walked away. Some say the final round should indeed be interesting while others question the authenticity of the bruhaha noting the television cameras just happened to be on scene.

Meanwhile, Prado (2-2) who came in with the points lead leaves with the points lead and also walked away winner of the round thanks to that second place Moto 2 finish.

"We just keep improving. The jump out of the gate was good. I was there with Hunter, put in an aggressive pass and I cased the quad. I thought I was going over the bars, the bike saved me. I cased it again three laps later," Prado said. "(I thought) this race is going to be hard, we were all ripping. I was trying to stay with Hunter and trying to see where he was gaining time, we were very similar. I was waiting for (the rookie) to make a mistake and it happened. Just rode it home safe. Just incredible."

Roczen, who won the 2026 Supercross title but did not race Outdoors, finished third overall on a (1-4) day and admitted his lack of racing over the summer contributed to his fitness preventing a better run up front in Moto 2.

250 Class

In the 250 class, Julien Beaumer (1-3) had a day. Destroyed the field in Moto 1, taking the Holeshot and checking out. His settled for third in Moto 2 securing the overall which brought him to third in points from out of the Top 5 entering the round.

Cole Davies (4-DNF) also had a day but of a different sort. The frontrunner for the 250 class SMX title crashed in the first race while in second and finished in fourth but in Moto 2 had an awful get-off just two minutes in, limped back to his bike and eventually called it. Though mathematically still in it for the SMX Championship with triple points available for Round 3, Davies falls from third in the standings to seventh, 34 points from first.

Levi Kitchen (7-1) holds on to the points lead after taking the overall in the opening round. He finished seventh in Moto 1 but drilled it home for first in Moto 2 to land third overall. Ryder DiFrancesco who finished third overall in the opening round, took second overall in Los Angeles on a (2-5) day. He sits comfortably in second in the standings just three points back of Kitchen.

The SMX playoff series determines a $1 million dollar in the 450 class and $500,000 in the 250 class with the finale Saturday at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, MO.
