2026 Cleveland Supercross Recap

The track broke down but it kind of held up considering Round 14 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season escaped a possible full blown mudder on Saturday in Cleveland at Huntington Bank Field, the first time since 1995 Cleveland rocked some Supercross.

It did rain but not enough for a slop fest and with the third of three Triple Crown events taking place the window was wide open for a downpour to ruin everything, or if preferred, make it more exciting.

Either way, it looked as though Ken Roczen was ready for whatever.

Roczen won his fourth of the year in his near unprecedented second half season surge to pull to within ONE (1) point of the championship lead he was hardly a part of a month or so ago. Roczen went (2-2-1) on the day for an overwhelming overall win and Race 3 wasn't even close. A Holeshot and he checked out.

"I'm so blown away. This gamble with the weather. It was supposed to be clear for last two main events and it kept raining. We made the right decision when it came to goggles," said Roczen who wore tear-offs. "After I got that Holeshot in the last main I had a clear track. Once I had a bit of a gap - do the rhythms don't do anything silly don't lose to much time. I am just so grateful and so thankful I am able to ride like this."

Roczen, who endured significant injuries earlier in his career, first a compound fracture in his left arm in 2017 and significant fractures to his right hand when he got his right arm caught in Cooper Webb's rear wheel in 2018, and - since his recovery - generally starts out strong and fades as the season wanes. The 33-year old veteran now sits on the cusp of his first 450 class Supercross championship.

He only has one competitor in the title chase in Hunter Lawrence (1-5-14) who won Race 1, finished fifth for Race 2 and still within podium contention for Race 3 until it blew up. He crashed in the whoops (which derailed his race in Detroit a few weeks ago) resulting in the fuel vent hose on the gas cap coming off and splashing gas on Lawrence as he rode. Lawrence crashed again and limped home in 14th for sixth overall erasing a 10 point lead over Roczen who has three wins in the last four rounds.

Eli Tomac, once considered the title favorite with a banger of a first half officially exits the conversation when he crashed in the first qualifying session and though he tried to qualify later, pulled off the track and called it a day. Initial reports indicated injuries to his hip and shoulder left him sidelined. Holder of the Red Plate just a few rounds ago, Tomac drops to fourth, 31 points from the lead.

Defending Champion Cooper Webb (5-4-2) finished second for the round on the tie-breaker over Justin Cooper (3-1-7). Webb hasn't been much a factor in the title chase this year but wouldn't you know it, he sits third 22 points out.

Now, it could happen, like some bizarre penultimate round injury (maybe a ruptured Achilles?) to the points leader who simply needs to mail it in that completely rewrites the end of the Supercross season. But incidents like that only happen in the movies. Right? Webb and Tomac need to start writing now.

Cooper, Justin that is, won Race 2 but he nearly crashed out, well he did but only briefly, in Race 3, as a hard landing sent him into the tuff blocks over a berm and off the track. He settled on seventh, otherwise would have easily taken a second overall.

250 East Class

Nate Thrasher (2-1-4) made it six in a row! Unfortunately, not for the season. Thrasher in his sixth season got his first win this year in the 250 East class, checking off the win box for every year he's raced since his rookie 2021 season. Thrasher started the season with an injured shoulder which didn't prevent him from racing but had several crashes, most notably in Arlington - the start of the 250 East season - and Detroit both ending his night early.

"It's awesome. All season was unreal and I really felt like I was going to be able to contend this year for the championship," he said. "Had a little mishap and that's part of it. We've done everything we can, we're trending, it feels good to be back up here (on the podium). We're back and let's go and try it again next weekend."

Rookie Landen Gordon (4-2-2) in just his second start took second overall outdueling points leader Cole Davies (5-4-1). A much better result compared to his first start a week earlier in Nashville when his night ended shortly after gate drop.

"If you would have told me after last week I'd be sitting on the podium," he said. "It's unbelievable. I've put so much work into this. It's truly unbelievable. I'm sure it will sink in in a little bit but right now I'm in shock."

For his part, Davies decimated the field in Race 3 which helped get him on the overall podium and negate rough outings in the first two races. He squirreled out while battling Thrasher for the lead in Race 1, dropped to sixth and almost went down again later in the race ultimately settling on fifth.

A Red Flag for Race 2 assisted Davies when he went down with Drew Adams and a couple of others at the start. Davies dropped out of the Top 10 but the injury to Adams forced a total restart of the race. Thrasher and Gordon held firm in their positions up front while Seth Hammaker passed Davies for third as the clock ticked 0:00. Hammaker (1-3-6) won Race 1 but the sixth in Race 3 dropped him to fourth on the tire-breaker to Davies. As a result, Davies increased his lead in the points standings to 21 over Hammaker.

Three rounds remain with the next stop in Philadelphia before Supercross treks west for the final two rounds of the 2026 season.
