2026 Nashville Supercross Recap
Hunter Lawrence may have put a nail in the 2026 450 class Supercross Championship with a banger of a ride along with an implosion from his nearest competitors.
Lawrence, who clinched his 2023 250 East Championship at Nashville, holds a commanding lead for the 450 class after his fourth win of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross series on Saturday, also in Nashville.
Lawrence never wavered on Saturday as Roczen, riding a momentum swinging two-race win streak, raced to a big lead at the start besting a surprise in Justin Hill, who grabbed the Holeshot then held a firm grip on second once Roczen shot out front on the first lap. Lawrence moved into third in less than three minutes after starting fifth and shortly thereafter picked off second and tracked down Roczen.
A brief battle initially looked promising for Lawrence but Roczen held on to the lead and built a gap until squirreling off a small jump that opened the door for Lawrence midway through the Main Event. Lawrence zoomed off and shortly later with about seven minutes remaining Roczen tossed his bike before the Finish Line jump, struggled to kickstart and fell to fourth. He managed to get back into third but the spill enabled Cooper Webb to finish second, his first podium in weeks and an easy victory for Lawrence.
Undoubtedly, Lawrence erased the crash and 18th place two weeks ago in Detroit which resulted in a 13 point swing giving the Red Plate to Eli Tomac. Last week Ken Roczen won his second straight and pulled to within five points of Lawrence and Tomac, then tied in points. Now, Lawrence owns a 10 point lead over Roczen and Tomac drops to third, 15 points back.
Tomac's effort for a third 450 class title arguably ended on Saturday. He started outside the Top 10, worked his way to eighth, crashed and finished 12th. Though he won his Heat race, he looks far from the highly touted contender that started the season with two wins and dominated Daytona in early March. He now looks more and more like the Ryan Dungey of 2017 who infamously said "It's just a dirt bike race" after coincidentally losing to Tomac at Indianapolis. A worn out Dungey indeed retired at the end of that season but after winning the championship. Tomac needs a resurgence and another Lawrence crash to cap the season with a title.
Hill finished fifth in his best outing in a long time while Chase Sexton rebounded from a hard-cased-jump (sounds like a Beatles song) last week that ended his race in St. Louis to place fourth.
250 East Class
In the 250 East, Seth Hammaker provided the entertainment while Cole Davies racked another win.
Daxton Bennick got the Holeshot but that lead lasted less than a lap as Nate Thrasher passed and he held he lead for less than four minutes when Davies, who started outside the Top 5 but got into third on the first lap, nearly swapped out in the whoops, held on tight and somehow passed for the lead with a wobbling rear-end.
Now it was up to Hammaker who said last week he needed to push harder for wins. And he did. He started fifth was second five minutes into the race in his hunt for Davies. Near the nine minute mark, he over jumped a triple, hit a tuff block, got tossed and his bike landed on him.
He resumed racing in fourth. Bennick back into second and Thrasher third. With two minutes left, Hammaker passed Thrasher and zeroed in on Bennick. Hammaker hit a tuff block again, held firm and was on Bennick's fender as the two exited a corner. Bennick's rear wheel slid out and Hammaker riding wheels-off had no time to slow and the two came together. Both went down. Bennick's hope for second place vanished so did Hammaker's as Thrasher passed. Hammaker remounted quick and finished third. Bennick took fifth.
"Made a mistake all on my own earlier. Can't be doing that in this part of the championship," Hammaker said. "Salvaged to ride pretty good until me and Dax got together in the mechanic's area. Just thankful to be on the box again."
But Hammaker was penalized two spots for cutting the track after the first crash. So no box for you! And a bigger points lead for Davies. Devin Simonson's career best fourth turned into an even better career best third. Davies' fourth win boosts his lead over Hammaker to 19 with three rounds left.
"That was sketchy tonight. That was a good race, I didn't get off to a good start but I made it happen," Davies said.
The 2026 Supercross season continues Saturday in Cleveland.
