2026 Salt Lake City Supercross Recap

The gravity of the moment was not lost on Ken Roczen.

In probably one of the greatest comeback stories in sports history Roczen soaked it all in, as much as time allowed - after all, he did eventually have to leave the track. The crashes. The blown shock from two years ago. The injuries. The career altering injuries. Even life altering. That external fixator.

Now, at 32 years old, Ken Roczen - 2026 Supercross Champion.

He secured the title at the final round of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season on Saturday in Salt Lake City needing just to finish in front of Hunter Lawrence thanks to a bleak one-point lead heading into the final race.

Lawrence grabbed the Holeshot; Roczen took the lead.

And it's not like Roczen didn't look back, as the saying goes, when one builds a gap and easily wins in this sport. No doubt, he looked back multiple times as Lawrence ebbed and flowed off his fender as the two carried on a couple brief battles for the lead.

Lawrence, he who dominates during the second half of races while Roczen tends to fade, seemed in prep mode for the inevitable.

But no fading on this night at least from exhaustion. Lawrence made the first mistake with Jorge Prado near his fender when he leaped off track at the 11:47 minute mark. That gave Roczen a better cushion but hardly enough to cruise home. Lawrence retained his hold on second but shortly after, heading for a berm and Prado just behind, his front tire didn't cooperate and whatever happened, Lawrence failed to turn and kissed the tuff block tipping him over. His frantic effort to resume racing resulted in another minor spill, a drop to seventh place and save for the similar happening to Roczen, it was all over.

Roczen held on to the lead until he let Chase Sexton by with what probably felt like an eternity still left on the clock - actually just four minutes. Prado, Justin Cooper and Cooper Webb all gained spots on the final lap when Roczen simply wanted to stay upright and cherish the moment. He finished fifth - two spots in front of Lawrence.

"I was an emotional wreck today, it was not an easy task," Roczen said shaking his head in disbelief as the 2026 Supercross title hardware was handed out. Ten years ago he won the 2016 Motocross title. The last time he lifted a trophy that heavy.

"I'm exhausted physically and mentally. I've dreamed of this since I was a little kid. This is just a testament that you never give up and anybody at any age wherever you're competing and you have anxiety you want to get it done but you have strange emotions that rob your energy. You're not alone, I have the same thing, but I don't give up. I work on it daily and this is how it pays off and you can do it too."

Talk about a life of perseverance.

Ken Roczen becoming the oldest to clinch a premier 450 Class Supercross title should be talked about in the annals of sports history for years to come.

250 East West Showdown

Did the true 250 class champion stand up? Arguably. Both classes wrapped up early, so it was more of a who can add another win to the history books and walk home with bragging rights. Certainly today, Cole Davies can brag.

Having already secured the 250 Class East title, Davies decimated the 250 West Champ in a championship inspired battle.

The 250 West Champ who successfully defended his crown a few weeks ago grabbed the Holeshot, quickly lost it to Max Anstie and two minutes later regained the lead with both eyes seemingly on the checkers just like most races this season.

Davies who started third, passed Anstie for second with about 12 minutes on the clock and started to reel in the leader using his unmatched prowess through the whoops. The two exchanged leads as they crisscrossed each other with the West Champion proving most defiant.

But then BAM! at the 7:26 mark of the clock.

Davies took his counterpart underneath in a berm sending him sideways. The loser of this battle attempted his own shot a few turns later in the exact same manner but completely failed. Falling to the ground, his panicked effort to return to the fight quickly ended when he crashed in the sand.

"That was a great race. I didn't get off to a great start but I made it happen," said Davies whose victory prevented the 250 West Champion from owning the all-time record for East / West Showdown wins. "Pressures offit's fun racing like that back and forth. It's fun I enjoyed it."

Elsewhere, Cameron McAdoo and Seth Hammaker both went down near simultaneously with 10 and half minutes to go in the whoops. Initially it looked like McAdoo's fall captured Hammaker but if anything perhaps the crash distraction took Hammaker's focus. Levi Kitchen was fifth at the time and helped by those two going down ended up second overall in Salt Lake City. Anstie finished third. Kitchen and Anstie also finish second and third for the 250 West season.

Despite not finished the race, Hammaker finished second in the East and Daxton Bennick who did not race held for third on the season.
