2026 St. Louis Supercross Recap

All aboard the Roczen train.

The 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season now has three contenders, maybe four, but who we kidding, probably just two, thanks to a late season surge by veteran Ken Roczen who somehow has turned back time.

Roczen, devoid of a premier Supercross class title, sits on the precipice of the 450 class championship with not just an outstanding ride, but a dominating ride in brutal track conditions on Saturday in St. Louis for Round 12 at the Dome at America's Center.

A brief battle for the lead at the start between Jorge Prado and Hunter Lawrence was quickly left in the rearview when Roczen got around both during the first lap. And checked out. Not even close. He crossed the Finish Line, then did an oil change on his dirt bike before Justin Cooper secured second.

"All I can say is dirt bikes are gnarly. I still can't believe it. That track was absolutely brutal and on top of that, it was just extremely busy," Roczen said of the various track impediments. "It was a brutal Main Event once I had a gap. You don't want to make any silly mistakes, taking your time. I cannot believe I pulled off this back-to-back win. Never stop believing."

At one time - barely considered a contender as Lawrence and Eli Tomac pulled away in points - Roczen now sits just five points back of those two, who are now tied in points. Roczen has three wins on the season and based on the last two races carries all the momentum (and speed) for the final stretch.

As for Tomac, he rides more like a shell of himself lately. He won Daytona what feels like 15 months ago, his fourth win of the year and record eighth at Daytona, but since then seems content with his place in history. After starting the year with two straight wins, Tomac looked ripe for his third Supercross championship but an up-and-down season since deserves to give credit to Lawrence's crash last week as the Red Plate inexplicably returned to Tomac's bike for St. Louis. As a result of his languid sixth place showing though Tomac shares the Red Plate with Lawrence this weekend in Nashville.

Perhaps he's playing a weird game of chess - the last two races he had nothing for Cooper who he normally beats handedly, but Tomac looks cooked. The other Cooper - Cooper Webb - also the defending champion, he sits 25 points back of Tomac and Lawrence. Five rounds remain - plenty of time for adjustments but no time for mistakes or fifth place finishes. By the way, the first Cooper - Justin Cooper - his second place finish was a career best.

Elsewhere, Chase Sexton cased his bike that likely rattled the stadium. He took a brief moment to compose himself but later pulled off the track.

250 Class

The second of three 250 East / West Showdowns crowned a champion in the West as the defending title holder won with relative ease and with two rounds left. He moves on to the 450 class this summer.

Cole Davies finished a distant second but since he races in the East he added to his lead over Seth Hammaker who finished third. Jo Shimoda who races in the East bowed out after suffering an ankle injury in his Heat race.

The 250 West class takes an extended break as the 250 East races the next three rounds starting Saturday in Nashville.
