2026 Denver Supercross Recap

Hunter Lawrence did what he needed to do, Ken Roczen did what he needed to do, thus the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross premier class championship heads to the final round with a winner take all proposition.

So, perhaps, a lot more excitement to come as Round 16 of Supercross at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver resembled mostly ring around the rosie with some minor skirmishes featuring riders outside of title contention.

In the 450 class, Jorge Prado just nipped the Holeshot from Lawrence but a minute later it was all Lawrence the rest of the race. He won by 13 seconds or so ahead of Roczen.

"It couldn't have been much better than that," Lawrence said. "I'm really happy, let's go to Salt Lake."

Lawrence and Roczen each have five wins and 12 podiums this season but if they end up tied in points, Lawrence secures the title thanks to owning more second-place finishes. If either wins Salt Lake City he gets the spoils, but if the two end up in some type of mid-pack battle Roczen needs to finish ahead of Lawrence to win the 2026 450 class Championship as he holds a one-point lead in the standings.

Elsewhere, Eli Tomac returned from a qualifying crash two weeks ago - that dropped him out of championship contention and from racing the previous two rounds - to finish third. This puts him second in all-time podium appearances tied with Jeremy McGrath. Tomac dropped to seventh at one point after stalling in the sand but put on a charge passing Cooper Webb and Prado to nail down third.

Webb and Prado meanwhile tangled in a fight for fourth with less than a minute on the clock. Webb tried taking Prado high in a berm almost sending Prado off the track but left Webb off balance and off the bike. He dropped to 11th which cracks the door for Tomac to finish third for the season, however, Webb would have to skip the final round with Tomac finishing second.

And talk about the quietest fifth place finish in history. Chase Sexton. I didn't even know he was racing. He did get some help with the Webb move on Prado and a get-together between Dylan Ferrandis and Justin Cooper that dropped them multiple spots but Sexton just appeared in the Top 5. Like a ghost. Malcom Stewart also took advantage of the aforementioned failed pass attempts to clinch fourth.

250 West

The 250 West class returned to action after a few weeks off with the title already wrapped but Levi Kitchen, Max Anstie and Ryder DiFranceso still have a dog in the fight for a place on the Championship Podium.

Kitchen won this round getting into second after a couple of laps and holding tight. Anstie, who just grabbed the Holeshot ahead of the race winner, got fourth behind DiFrancesco. Anstie holds a slim one-point lead over DiFranceso for third and Kitchen has a bigger cushion over Anstie for second with seven points.

"I'm actually really happy," said Kitchen who has been dealing with back issues keeping him from practicing. "Last week I hadn't rode yet and didn't know if I was going to race. Had a really good week and I'm pumped. Looking forward to next weekend and going to outdoors."
