2026 Glendale Supercross Recap
The round-and-round-we-go racing for Round 5 of the 2026 Monster Energy Supercross season on Saturday at State Farm Stadium in Glendae, AZ maybe offered a touch more excitement than the near dreadful Super Bowl LX, but plenty of storylines unfolded during the race that likely kept most fans stuck to their seats.
A night of contrasts for two fan-favorite veterans headlined the racing as one hit the dirt and the other grabbed the checkers.
Ken Roczen, with his share of injuries in year's past, made it seven-straight years with a win in the 450 class. And it wasn't even close. Starting second, he needed less than four minutes to get around Hunter Lawrence for the lead, fended off a brief response only to fully pull away. Roczen's victory marked the fourth different winner in five rounds and his fourth in Arizona.
"I got a good start, (Vince) Friese cut me off in the first turn otherwise I would have had the Holeshot," Roczen said. "I was able to pass Hunter. I knew it was going to be a long main. This track is tricky and it's just so fast, a little bit of a different track."
Roczen dedicated his win to Team Manager Larry Brooks, who was recently diagnosed with second stage colon cancer.
Lawrence lengthened his streak of finishing runner-up, now at four, BUT for the first time in his 450 class career he takes the Red Plate, even yet having won a round, as Eli Tomac crashed on the first turn.
Tomac got tangled up with Christian Craig at the start as both went down along with Colt Nichols. Tomac appeared injured, slowly rising to his feet and taking his time to get back on his dirt bike. He resumed way back of the pack, seemingly testing things out before getting back to race speed. By the late stages of the race, however, Tomac laid down some heaters giving him the fastest lap at times which helped stop bleeding points and finish 12th.
Afterwards, Tomac said he got pinched at the start then Craig hit him and it took some time to get loose and get going. He appeared unhurt but avoided the question on how he felt health wise. Tomac drops from the points leader to third in the standings, though just eight points from Lawrence.
Roczen moves into second. Defending Champion Cooper Webb who took the top step of the podium a week earlier in an effort to save his season after a rough three rounds, got on the podium again, in third-place. He called it a win considering his past results in Glendale.
250 West Class
Well, that was about as fun to watch as Malo Conejo. Wait, did you even watch? Watch what? Watch him. Who him? Him him. Ya, the defending champion got the Holeshot and checked out. Not even the cameras followed him much. And, we still don't feel comfortable mentioning him by name as the malignant narcissism (hey, Rush is back - got to throw in a reference eventually!) in that camp defies explanation. What camp?
Take your pick. (Man, I'm grateful to work for a company that lets me drop pop culture references and not rely solely on AI. Uncomfortable giggle emoji.)
This race revolved around local boy (to us, anyway) Levi Kitchen. Plagued by bad starts all year - not bad bunnies (seriously, did you watch that drivel?) - Kitchen crossed the (once sponsored by MotoSport until they wanted $600,000!) Holeshot in 19th. He was 13th before the first lap ended, then rode on rails the rest of the night and fought his way to second.
"It's a good night, there's a lot of positives but there's always a negative in my nights," Kitchen said. "I can't be doing that. Track position is super important, didn't put myself there. I feel good, I just got to keep working and I'm going to keep trying, keep fighting."
Cameron McAdoo added some excitement as the clock expired when he passed Michael Mosiman for the final step on the podium.
Yep, that's about it. Even those two on the television seemed bored. Hate to see that!
The 250 West gets one more race before a lengthy respite on Saturday in Seattle. Round 6 at the home of the 2026 Super Bowl Champions.
