2024 Fort Worth SuperMotocross Recap

A hot one outside of Dallas on Saturday for Round 2 of the 2024 SuperMotocross three-round playoff Championship at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, TX.

The 90+ temps along with relatively high humidity did little to slow down the title contenders as those upfront seemingly all year in both the 250 and 450 classes remained there, with a small points shake-up in the premier class.

In the premier class, Hunter Lawrence grabbed the Holeshot with Cooper Webb and brother Jett Lawrence in tow. Eli Tomac hovered nearby but Chase Sexton, holding a narrow points lead, was just inside the Top 10. Hunter remained out front fending off Jett as Tomac got around Webb for third at the 12 minute mark. With about eight minutes left, Hunter hit the top of the whoops and nearly bobbled off the track allowing Jett to pass and Tomac to get into passing position. Two minutes later Hunter and Tomac caught up to Jett

Jett stalling his bike in a turn let Hunter and Tomac by with about four minutes left as Hunter and Tomac raced to the finish with Hunter taking the checkers, Jett third and Sexton fourth.

In Moto 2, it was all Sexton, who got around Dylan Ferrandis for the lead less than three minutes in and dominated from there. Neither Jett, Hunter nor Tomac had much in the tank to catch Sexton, the reigning 450 class Motocross Champion, but Hunter's (1-3) day got him his first career 450 class overall win and the points lead. Sexton took third on a (4-1) day and Jett finished third overall with a (3-2) day.

"Had a little super accident out in the back but that's SuperMotocross," Hunter Lawrence said. "Happy to be getting out of here with the Red Plate. Feels good to get that one. Can't say I'm looking forward to riding that track again. So thankful it's done."

Lawrence carries a one-point lead over Sexton heading into the final round with triple points on the line. Jett Lawrence rides third eight back from Sexton and Tomac fourth, 21 points from taking the 2024 SMX title.

In the 250 class, it all seems like a foregone conclusion for Haiden Deegan. He dominated again, taking his second straight sweep, Holeshots in both Motos and no one really posing much of a threat.

In Moto 1, he was challenged early by Joe Shimoda but to no avail and in Moto 2 Levi Kitchen followed in second for a bit before going off the track after three minutes and losing his growing momentum. RJ Hampshire hit the tough blocks in the whoops leading to a horrible crash and the end of his race about midway through Moto 2.

Tom Vialle finished second overall on a (3-2) day taking the tie-breaker over Jo Shimoda's (2-3) day. Kitchen (7-4) finished fourth overall. Deegan owns a 19 point lead over Vialle and a 22 point lead over Kitchen heading into the final round but even with triple points on the line, outside a first turn pile-up or anything else that leaves Deegan in the back of the pack or a DNF, he looks to repeat as SMX Champion.

Final round on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
