A pump sits inside the tank, the delivery hose stays pressurized whenever the key is on, and no petcock exists underneath the tank to shut off flow. That means the first tool you reach for is not a screwdriver but the fuse puller, and the hose you install has to be rated for pressure rather than gravity feed.
Preparation, Parts, and Handling Gasoline
Get all of this together before the seat comes off:
- Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
- A drain pan and a sealed container approved for gasoline storage
- Injection rated hose matched to the original inside diameter
- New clamps in the correct style, plus a quick connect release tool if your fittings call for one
- Line clamping pliers, which substitute for the fuel valve this model does not carry
- A razor blade, clean rags, and hand tools for the seat and body panels
The safety note that actually matters concerns vapor rather than liquid. Extinguish pilot lights on nearby appliances, keep grinders and hot work lights well clear, and disconnect the battery negative cable before opening a fitting.
Why a Fuel Hose Eventually Quits
Two separate mechanisms are chewing on the same piece of rubber. From the outside, heat cycles, sunlight, and time drive out the plasticizers that keep the compound flexible, leaving a wall that has gone hard and prone to splitting where it bends. The chassis flex a Grizzly experiences on rough ground finishes the job. Dry regions accelerate all of it, because low humidity draws residual moisture out of the hose and stiffens it from the surface inward.
From the inside, ethanol blended fuel carries dissolved water and slowly breaks down the liner. Gasoline that sits unused for a season leaves gum and varnish behind as its lighter components evaporate, which restricts flow and sheds fine debris toward the injector. That damage is invisible from outside the hose, which is exactly why hose age deserves weight in your decision rather than appearance alone.
Symptoms of a Failing Line
Gasoline smell hanging around the seat after shutdown tops the list, followed by liquid on the skid plate, a wet stripe down a frame tube, or dust cemented into a dark ring at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried. Physical inspection tells you more: pinch the hose along its full length looking for hardened, glassy sections and hairline cracks, and check for a swollen or spongy area near a barb that indicates the liner has failed even though the exterior looks fine.
Watch how the engine behaves as well. Bogging as the throttle opens, a lean stumble at higher rpm, or the feel of a nearly empty tank when it is not can all trace back to compromised delivery. Because this hose runs pressurized, small breaches often mist and evaporate instead of dripping, so a persistent smell over a dry floor is still worth chasing with the key cycled on and the pump running.
Depressurizing and Pulling the Hose
Remove the fuel pump fuse from the block beneath the seat, then attempt to start the engine so it burns off the pressure trapped in the line. Key off, battery disconnected. Take off the seat and center bodywork to expose the tank outlet, and trace the hose forward toward the throttle body while photographing every clip and clearance point you find.
Slide the drain pan under the joint and lay a rag over it, since a depressurized line still holds fuel. Ease the clamps well back along the hose before you break the connection. If varnish has glued the rubber to its barb, cut the hose lengthwise with a razor and peel it off rather than pulling hard on a fitting that has been through temperature extremes. Quick connect couplers release when the tabs are squeezed evenly and the fitting is drawn straight back. This is a 4x4 with power steering, so the hose shares its corridor with front differential and steering hardware, and it is worth confirming which side of each brace it passes on before the old line is completely free.
Fitting the Replacement and Testing It
Match the new hose to the old one for length before installing, since extra slack ends up rubbing a frame member or drifting toward exhaust heat once the panels return. Seat each end fully onto its barb, all the way to the shoulder, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone have no place on a fuel fitting: any film there gives pressurized gasoline a route past the sealing surface and can carry contamination downstream. If the hose is stubborn, thirty seconds in hot water makes it pliable enough to push on by hand.
Place new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them uniformly, firm enough to seal without biting into the rubber. Where the tank end uses a self locking quick connect, push until you hear the collar click and then tug firmly to confirm it latched, because that connection is designed to work without a clamp. Reinstall the hose through every original clip so it stays clear of moving and hot components.
Refit the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle pressurizes the circuit and gives you a clean look at both joints before the engine ever runs. Wipe each fitting with a dry rag, then start the Grizzly and inspect once more at idle for a minute or two. Once everything stays dry, reinstall the plastics and the seat. Bear in mind that the filter on this injected model lives inside the tank with the pump instead of inline on the hose, so if fuel delivery still feels soft after a clean install, that assembly is where the search continues.
