Understanding the fuel system on your 2025 KingQuad 500AXi is the shortest route to doing this job correctly. This is an injected machine, and the plumbing between the tank and the engine behaves nothing like the simple gravity feed on an older carbureted quad. Get that picture straight in your head and every step that follows makes sense.
How Fuel Reaches the Engine
The AXi designation identifies Suzuki electronic fuel injection. A pump module mounted inside the fuel tank pressurizes the supply hose, which runs to a single throttle body where an injector meters fuel into the intake. There is no petcock beneath the tank to shut off flow, no float bowl with a drain screw, and no way to stop delivery by simply lifting a hose above the tank. The circuit also holds pressure after shutdown, which is why an injected quad demands a deliberate pressure–relief step and hose rated for injection service rather than the soft carburetor hose that suits older machines.
What Makes a Hose Give Up
Rubber fuel hose deteriorates on a chemical timeline rather than a mileage one. The plasticizers that keep it flexible migrate out with every heat cycle from the 493cc single, so the wall stiffens and eventually cracks, usually starting in the tightest bend. Machines living in dry, low–humidity country harden faster because the surrounding air keeps drawing moisture out of the material.
Ethanol–blended gasoline attacks from the other side. Alcohol pulls water into the fuel and slowly degrades the inner liner, and fuel that sits unused leaves gum and varnish at the fittings while loosening particles headed for the injector. Since the outside hardens as the inside softens, a hose that looks acceptable can still be compromised, and that is why condition should be judged by time in service and feel as much as by sight.
Symptoms of a Line in Decline
- A fuel puddle or a repeating damp shadow under the tank area after the quad has been parked
- A gasoline smell that lingers around the machine, often the earliest indicator on a pressurized system
- Cracking or a chalky bloom visible on the hose, especially inside curves
- Hose that has hardened and will not compress when squeezed
- Bogging under load, a lean stumble on hard throttle, or the feel of an engine running short on fuel
Do not discount a smell without a drip. Pressurized fuel escaping a pinhole can mist and evaporate before it ever reaches the ground.
Parts, Tools, and Safe Handling
Gather gloves, eye protection, injection–rated hose in the matching inside diameter, new clamps of the correct style, a quick–disconnect release tool if a locking collar is present, line–clamping pliers, an approved fuel container, a catch pan, rags, sockets, and a plastic trim tool for the seat and panels.
Handle the workspace with the same care. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it flows downward and collects along the floor rather than escaping through a window overhead, and the floor is exactly where drop lights, heaters, and appliance pilot flames tend to be. Work outdoors or with the overhead door fully open so air moves at ground level, clear every ignition source out of the space, and keep an extinguisher within reach while a fuel line is open.
Disconnecting the Old Line
Relieve pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it stalls on its own, turn the key off, and disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove the seat and the side plastics to expose the tank fitting, then follow the hose to the throttle body so both ends are identified. Slide the catch pan underneath and wrap a rag around each joint as you open it, because residual fuel sits in the hose even with pressure relieved.
Push clamps well back along the hose before disturbing the fittings themselves. A locking connector releases when both tabs are pressed squarely and the coupler is pulled straight off, and prying sideways is what cracks a plastic collar. Twist a hose that has varnished onto a barb rather than yanking, and if it still resists, slit it lengthwise with a blade and peel it away to protect the fitting. Note the routing before the hose is fully free. With selectable four–wheel drive, the line negotiates clearance around front differential hardware and extra frame structure that a two–wheel–drive chassis does not include.
Installing and Securing the New Hose
Cut the replacement to match the original exactly. Push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, and assemble it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone belong nowhere near a fuel fitting, because lubricant on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path to creep out past the clamp. A few seconds in hot water softens a stubborn hose end better than force.
Locate new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug without crushing the rubber. A self–locking quick–connect needs no clamp; push until it clicks, then pull firmly to confirm the latch engaged. Reseat the hose in every factory clip so it clears the front driveline and hot exhaust with room to spare.
Final Leak Check
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle primes the pump and pressurizes the hose with the engine off, which gives you the cleanest look at both joints before vibration is added. Wipe them dry, start the 500AXi, and inspect again at idle and after several minutes of warm running before the bodywork goes back on.
