Inspection Before You Order Parts

Flex a bend and look for fine cracks in the outer skin. Examine both fittings for a dark ring of grime held there by dried fuel, the classic sign of slow seepage.

The Reasons Fuel Hose Deteriorates
Heat cycling next to the engine slowly drives the plasticizers out of the rubber, leaving a wall too stiff to flex with the chassis. On a long two-up frame working over uneven terrain, that rigidity turns into hairline cracks at bends and clamp positions. Machines living in dry country reach that point sooner, since arid air keeps drawing moisture out of the hose wall year round.
Ethanol-blended gasoline damages the other surface. E10 absorbs moisture and gradually degrades the hose's inner liner, so a Sportsman that sits a few months with fuel in the system can be soft and flaking internally while the exterior still looks respectable. Tools and a Safe Workspace

Installation and Leak Verification

Refit the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump brings the line to pressure while the joints are still dry.
