There is no petcock to close and no float bowl to drain, so the approach differs meaningfully from what an older carbureted quad would require. Whether you are replacing a damaged line now or planning ahead, the sequence below is the one to follow.

Recognizing a Line That Needs Attention

Fuel hose gives warning before it quits. Watch for a damp patch or puddle beneath the machine after it has been parked, a gasoline smell around the tank that will not fade, or visible crazing and chalkiness on the hose surface. Pinch the line at several points; a section noticeably stiffer than the rest has already lost its flexibility. A dark ring of dirt gathered at a fitting is dried fuel from slow seepage.

Engine behavior is the other half of the diagnosis. Bogging under load, a stumble when you snap the throttle, or lean-feeling surging at steady speed all indicate the engine is not getting the fuel volume it wants. Because this system runs under pressure, a small breach often atomizes and evaporates rather than dripping, so a persistent smell over a dry floor still means there is work to do.

Why Fuel Hose Deteriorates

Two processes work against the rubber simultaneously. Heat cycling next to the engine drives out the plasticizers that keep the hose pliable, and as the wall hardens it stops flexing with the frame. Assembling Tools and Working Safely

Ventilation is a genuine safety matter, not a formality. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, right where extension cords and heaters usually sit. Fitting the New Line and Verifying the Work

Reseat the hose in every original clip so it stays clear of the driveline and hot surfaces.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the line while the joints are dry.
