On a 2025 Sportsman 570 X2 the job is straightforward once you understand what you are working with, and the single most important thing to establish before you start is that this machine is fuel injected. The ProStar 570 single runs electronic injection with an in-tank pump module, so there is no petcock under the tank to twist closed and the hose you are replacing is part of a pressurized circuit.

Laying Out Tools and Parts First

Collect everything before a single clamp comes loose. Once a fitting is open you want both hands free and a rag already in reach.

  • Nitrile or heavy rubber gloves, because pump gas pulls the oil straight out of bare skin
  • A sealed metal or fuel-rated container to catch whatever drains out
  • Replacement hose rated for injection pressure in the same inside diameter as the original, not general purpose carburetor line
  • Fresh clamps matched to the style on your machine, plus a quick-connect release tool if the tank end uses a locking coupler

Do this outdoors or with the garage wide open, and treat ventilation as low-level ventilation. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor height, so a cracked window six feet up accomplishes nothing. No heaters, no grinders, no smoking anywhere near the work.

Understanding the Layout on the X2 Chassis

The X2 is the two-up version of the Sportsman, which means the chassis is stretched behind the rider and the convertible rear seat and cargo deck sit directly over the area you need to reach. Budget time for removing that rear structure and the seat before you can see the tank fittings clearly. Because this is an on-demand all-wheel-drive machine, the supply hose also has to clear front differential hardware and additional frame crossmembers that a two-wheel-drive quad simply does not carry, so it follows a slightly longer and more sheltered path than you might expect.

Trace the run with a flashlight and photograph every clip, guide and clearance point before anything comes apart. Reproducing the original routing exactly is what keeps the new hose away from hot exhaust and off the driveline.

Why the Hose Hardens and Cracks

Rubber fuel line ages from both sides at once. From the outside, the plasticizers that keep the wall soft slowly migrate out under engine heat cycling, and the hose turns stiff and glassy instead of pliable. Riders in dry, low-humidity country see this happen faster, since arid air accelerates the drying and hardening of the outer wall. Once a hose is stiff, ordinary frame flex over rough ground starts working hairline splits into the surface.

From the inside, ethanol-blended pump gas does its own damage. E10 attracts moisture and gradually attacks the inner liner, leaving a soft, swollen surface that sheds material downstream. A machine that sits for long stretches with fuel in the system suffers most, because that chemistry works on the liner whether the engine ever runs or not. The end result is a hose that can look acceptable from outside while it is failing internally.

Symptoms That Should Get Your Attention

A dying line usually gives warning before it lets go completely. Look for a fuel smell that lingers around the tank area, strongest right after shutdown while the system still holds residual pressure. Check for a damp patch or small puddle on the skid plate or shop floor under a parked machine. Pinch the hose between your fingers and feel for hard, chalky sections or fine surface cracking, and look for a dust-caked ring at either fitting where seeping fuel has dried and collected grit.

Running problems point the same direction. Bogging under load, a stumble on hard throttle, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm all suggest restricted or leaking delivery. On an injected 570 a small pressure-side weep may never form a puddle at all, since fuel atomizes and evaporates before it drips, so your nose is often a better instrument than your eyes.

Getting the Old Line Off Cleanly

Relieve system pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine briefly until it stalls out, switch the key off, then disconnect the battery negative cable. Skipping this step is how people end up with fuel across the engine bay.

With the plastics off, slide a drain pan beneath the fittings and drape a rag over the first joint you open. Slide worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before you disturb the connection. If the tank side uses a quick-connect coupler, press the locking tabs squarely and pull straight off without levering sideways, since those plastic collars grow brittle and crack if you pry them. Break the varnish bond at a barb by twisting the hose gently rather than yanking, and if a section refuses to release, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it away rather than risk damaging the fitting itself.

Fitting the Replacement

Cut the new hose to match the original length exactly. Extra length looks harmless on the bench but chafes against the frame or interferes with steering travel once everything is back together. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and install it dry. Never use grease, oil or silicone on a fuel fitting, because any lubricant on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path to creep out past the clamp. If the hose is stiff, a brief dip in hot water softens it enough to slide on without help.

Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug rather than crushed. Where a self-locking quick-connect is used, push until the collar clicks and then tug firmly to confirm it has latched — that joint needs no clamp at all. Return the hose to every original clip and guide.

Leak Check and Wrapping Up

Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, letting you inspect both joints while the area is still dry. Feel around each fitting with a clean rag, then start the engine and check again at idle for several minutes before the panels, rear deck and seat go back on.

One detail worth remembering on this platform: the fuel filter is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than an inline piece you can see. New hose will not cure a clogged filter, so if delivery symptoms linger after a clean install, that in-tank module is where you look next.
