The 2025 Brute Force 300 keeps things refreshingly mechanical, and the hose running from the tank to the carburetor is something you can inspect in two minutes and replace in under an hour once you know what you are looking at.

Straight to the Point: What This Machine Runs

The Brute Force 300 is carbureted, and that single detail shapes every step that follows. A petcock at the tank acts as a manual shut off, so closing it stops the supply completely before you open a fitting. Past the valve, gravity moves fuel down a short hose to the carburetor inlet. Nothing is pressurized, meaning there is no in-tank pump to bleed down, no fuse or relay to remove first, and no self-locking quick-connect coupler standing between you and the hose. Both ends live on plain barbed spigots with clamps.

The carburetor also gives you a float bowl drain screw. Put clear tubing on it, run it into a container, and empty the bowl before the hose comes loose so the carb side stays clean. Being a 2x4, this chassis carries no front differential or extra driveline hardware near the frame rails, so the hose path is direct and easy to see — a genuine access advantage over four-wheel-drive utility quads where the run passes more hardware.

Where the Hose Wears Out First

Fuel line is flexible because of plasticizers blended into the rubber, and those additives leave the compound gradually. Heat drives them out faster, so the length nearest the air-cooled 271cc single always hardens ahead of the rest. A hose with no flex left cracks where it bends and beneath the clamps, and normal vibration finishes the job over a season or two.

Climate and fuel chemistry both contribute. Arid, low-humidity air pulls moisture out of the hose wall and leaves the outer surface chalky and brittle earlier than a humid environment would. Ethanol-blended pump gas works the other direction, holding moisture against the inner liner and slowly breaking it down so fine material sheds toward the carburetor. Stagnant fuel accelerates that, which is why a machine that sits for months with a partial tank ages its plumbing faster than one ridden regularly.

The Tells

  • A fuel stain or slow drip on the floor under the left side of the quad after it sits
  • Gasoline odor around the front bodywork that lingers even in a ventilated space
  • Hairline cracks that open when you flex the hose between your fingers
  • Hose that feels stiff and glassy, or a section gone soft, spongy, and swollen
  • A crusted dust ring at either fitting, marking fuel that has seeped and evaporated many times
  • Bogging under throttle, a lean stumble, or an engine acting starved with fuel still in the tank

Kit and Precautions

You need gloves, eye protection, an approved fuel container, a shallow catch pan, replacement hose in the correct inside diameter cut slightly long, new clamps, clear tubing for the bowl drain, a flat-blade screwdriver, pliers, a small socket set, and clean rags. Reusing old clamps is the most common reason a fresh hose still weeps, so buy new ones rather than fighting it later.

The one part of this job that requires real caution is the fuel. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it drifts down and pools at floor level, exactly where a water heater pilot, a shop heater, or a dropped tool can ignite it. An open window at head height does nothing about that. Work outdoors or with the overhead door fully raised, keep an extinguisher within arm's reach, and keep grinding, welding, and open flame entirely out of the space. Let a spill evaporate in open air instead of sealing soaked rags in a closed bin.

Removing the Old Run

Turn the petcock off, then take the seat off along with any panel that blocks your view of the tank outlet and the carburetor inlet. Fit your clear tube to the float bowl drain, direct it into the container, back the screw out, let the bowl empty, and close it again. Slide the pan under the work area and lay a rag over the first fitting you plan to open, because the hose holds fuel even after the valve is closed.

Loosen both clamps and slide them well back along the hose. Rather than hauling the hose off its barb, twist it in place to break the varnish that has bonded it there; a hard pull loads the petcock spigot and the carburetor inlet in a way neither is designed for. If the hose has genuinely fused itself on, slice it lengthwise with a razor blade and peel it off in two pieces. Note the routing and every frame clip it passes through before the old line is fully clear.

Locking In the New Line

Trim the replacement to the same length as the piece you removed. Excess hose chafes against the frame or folds into a kink that restricts flow, and a short piece keeps both fittings under permanent tension. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms against the shoulder, and do it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone all create a leak path on a fuel fitting and let the hose creep off under vibration, so keep every lubricant away from the sealing surfaces. A few seconds in hot water softens a tight end enough to slide on by hand.

Set the new clamps just behind the raised bead on each barb and tighten them evenly. Snug is correct; a clamp cranked down until it bites into the rubber creates the exact leak you set out to prevent. Route the hose back through its original clip so it stays clear of hot surfaces and moving components.

Final Wet Check

Open the petcock and wait a minute for the line to fill and the float bowl to top off. Wipe both joints with a dry rag and inspect them under bright light, looking for the smallest bead of fuel at either barb. Then start the engine, let it idle for several minutes, and check both connections a second time while the machine is warm and vibrating, since heat and movement will expose a joint that seemed perfect cold. When both inspections come back completely dry, reinstall the bodywork and seat and your 2025 Brute Force 300 is ready to ride.
