What the 800 Touring Fuel System Looks Like

This machine runs an 800cc liquid-cooled V-twin with electronic fuel injection. That means there is no petcock anywhere on the quad and no gravity feed to shut off. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes the supply hose that carries fuel to the throttle body, and the circuit holds pressure long after the key is turned off. Pressurized systems make small leaks harder to see, because fuel escaping a pinhole often atomizes and evaporates before it drips. An unexplained fuel smell is therefore worth a full hands-on inspection rather than a quick look underneath.

Setting Up: Parts, Tools, and Ventilation

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves, since gasoline strips skin oils quickly

Removing the Old Hose Cleanly
