The removal half of this job is where most of the mess and most of the mistakes happen. Get the old hose off the 2025 CFORCE 500 cleanly, without cracking a fitting or dumping fuel across the floor, and the installation is almost anticlimactic by comparison.
Bleeding Pressure Before Anything Moves
The 2025 CFORCE 500 is fuel-injected, so the very first action is electrical rather than mechanical. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the engine for a few seconds until it stalls from fuel starvation. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. This step exists because an injected machine has no petcock to close: an electric pump inside the tank keeps the supply line to the throttle body pressurized even after shutdown, unlike a carbureted quad where a shutoff valve and a float bowl drain let you isolate the tank in seconds. Skip the bleed and the first fitting you crack will spray rather than dribble.
Getting Access and Catching the Fuel
Remove the seat and whichever side panels stand between you and the tank outlet, then trace the hose forward toward the throttle body so its complete path is clear before you loosen anything. Slide a wide drain pan underneath and keep a sealed fuel-approved container nearby to pour into.
Drape a rag over the fitting you plan to open first. Even a depressurized circuit holds standing fuel, and that fuel will find your forearm the instant the joint releases. Work one connection at a time rather than loosening both ends and hoping the pan catches everything.
Separating the Hose From Its Fittings
Slide worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before you twist the connection, so the clamp is not fighting you while you work. If the tank outlet uses a quick-connect coupler, depress the release tabs squarely and pull straight off. Never lever sideways, because plastic collars grow brittle with age and split, turning a hose replacement into a fitting replacement.
Old hose frequently varnishes itself to the barb underneath. A gentle twist usually breaks that bond. When it truly will not release, slit the hose lengthwise with a razor knife and peel it away in pieces rather than prying or yanking on the fitting. Note every clip and clearance point as the line comes out. The 500 is a 4x4 with selectable two-wheel drive, and the front differential and driveline hardware create a tighter path than a two-wheel-drive quad presents, so photograph the routing before the hose is fully free.
Why the Old Line Wore Out
Fuel hose is attacked from both surfaces. Externally, heat cycling from the engine and ultraviolet exposure drive out the plasticizers that keep rubber flexible, so a line that once compressed easily turns firm and then glassy. Dry climates accelerate this by pulling moisture from the hose wall, which is why the same machine in arid country cracks its line years before one in a humid region. After the material stiffens, ordinary chassis flex across rutted ground converts fine checking into splits.
Internally, ethanol-blended gasoline attracts moisture and slowly degrades the inner liner, especially during any period when the 500 sits with fuel standing in the hose. The line hardens outside while softening within, shedding fine debris toward the injector. That interior damage never shows during a visual check, which is why hose age is a more reliable replacement trigger than how the outside looks.
Symptoms and Tools
The signs that send owners into this job in the first place are worth recognizing: a gasoline smell lingering around the machine and strongest right after shutdown, a wet patch or dried stain on the floor beneath the tank, hose that feels hard or chalky when pinched, bogging under load or a flat spot on quick throttle, and long cranking on a cold start that suggests pressure bled off overnight. Since a pressurized leak often evaporates before it drips, a persistent smell counts as evidence on its own.
Have these ready before starting:
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure in the factory inside diameter, bought slightly long for trimming
- New clamps in the matching style, and a quick-disconnect release tool if a locking coupler is used
- Line-clamping pliers, filling the role the missing petcock would play
- Nitrile gloves, eye protection, and plenty of rags
- Razor knife, small flat-blade screwdriver, and sockets for the seat and plastics
Work outdoors or with the door fully open. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools at floor level exactly where you are kneeling, so ground-level ventilation matters far more than a cracked window. Shut off heaters and chargers, keep sparking tools away, and move fuel-soaked rags outside as they accumulate.
Fitting the Replacement
Cut the new hose to the original length, no longer. Slack sags into frame tubes or drifts toward hot exhaust and eventually wears through. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone do not belong on a fuel fitting under any circumstances, because a film on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a route to creep past the hose wall. If an end is too stiff to seat, dip it in hot water for a few seconds and it will slide on with hand pressure.
Position new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly rather than biting deep into the rubber. Where the tank outlet uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until the collar clicks, then pull firmly to confirm it latched; that joint wants no clamp. Reroute the hose through every original retainer so it stays clear of the front driveline.
Pressure Test and Final Inspection
Reinstall the fuel pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, giving you a clean, dry look at both joints before any fuel has a chance to weep. Wipe each connection with a rag, then start the engine and inspect once more at idle and with a few throttle blips before the plastics go back on.
One platform detail closes this out: the fuel filter on the CFORCE 500 lives inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than sitting inline where you can reach it. Fresh hose does nothing for a restricted filter, so if the machine still hesitates under load after a leak-free installation, the in-tank unit is your next area to investigate.
