Understanding how the hose ages tells you when to get ahead of it rather than react to a leak.

The Mechanics of Fuel Hose Deterioration

Rubber fuel line breaks down from two directions at once. Externally, heat cycling from the engine drives the flexible plasticizers out of the hose wall.   • Nitrile or rubber gloves, since gasoline absorbs through skin and strips its natural oils

  • Hose rated for injection pressure in the factory inside diameter, not general-purpose carburetor tubing
  • New clamps in the correct style, plus a quick-connect release tool if a locking coupler is fitted

  • Hand tools for seat and panels, a razor blade, a flashlight, and clean rags

Then deal with ventilation seriously. Gasoline vapor is denser than air and settles at floor level, where a heater pilot, a ground-level lamp, or a charger can find it. Work outside or with the overhead door fully open, eliminate low ignition sources, and keep an extinguisher within arm's reach.

Bleeding Pressure and Pulling the Line
