Understanding that decay is what lets you catch a line before it splits on a trail miles from the truck.

The Slow Death of Fuel Hose

Hose failure is a two-front problem. Externally, heat cycles from the 976cc Rotax twin plus sun and weather exposure pull the plasticizers out of the rubber compound. Running behavior counts equally: a stumble under load, hesitation as you roll into the throttle, or the general feel of an engine hunting for fuel all deserve a hose inspection.

Identifying the Fuel Delivery Setup

This XT-P is fuel injected, which removes the petcock from the equation entirely. There is no valve to rotate to off, because delivery comes from an electric pump mounted inside the tank that keeps the supply line pressurized. The fuel filter is built into that pump module rather than sitting inline, so nothing on the visible hose run is a serviceable filter. Fittings may be plain barbs secured with clamps or self-locking quick-connect couplers, and identifying which you have before applying force saves broken plastic. Depressurizing and Extracting the Old Hose

Place new clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten them evenly rather than cranking one side down. A self-locking quick-connect should click and then resist a firm pull, and it wants no clamp at all. Reseat the hose in each original clip so it stays clear of the driveline and hot surfaces.

The Leak Check That Ends the Job

Refit the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off five or six times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and loads the line, so you can inspect real pressure while the engine is still off. Wipe both fittings with a clean rag, then look for beading or a slow darkening around either joint. Start the twin, let it idle for several minutes, and repeat the inspection with a light throttle blip. Only after a genuinely dry check should the plastics and seat go back on.

Finally, keep expectations honest about what a hose fixes. Since the filter on this platform lives inside the tank with the pump, a machine that still bogs under heavy demand after a clean, leak-free installation is pointing you at that module rather than at the plumbing you just renewed.
