That single design fact shapes how you approach every stage of the replacement.
Identifying the System and Bleeding Pressure
The habit of reaching under the tank for a fuel valve carries over from carbureted quads and has no application here. An injected system holds residual pressure long after shutdown, so opening a fitting cold can still spray. The correct opening sequence is to pull the fuel pump fuse, crank the engine until it stalls from lack of fuel, switch the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Pressure relief does not empty the hose, though. Standing fuel stays in the line and will run out when a fitting releases, so a drain pan and a rag around the first joint belong in the plan. Line-clamping pliers handle what a petcock would do elsewhere, pinching off gravity flow from the tank once the hose is disconnected.
The Real Reasons Fuel Hose Gives Out
Degradation comes from two directions at once. The outer wall gradually loses its plasticizers, and rubber that once yielded under a thumb becomes stiff and glassy. Symptoms to Take Seriously

- Cracking, a chalky surface, or a hardened section you notice while pinching along the hose length
- Bogging under load or two-up, hesitation when the throttle opens, or lean running that mimics a low tank
- A dust ring baked onto a fitting where fuel has been weeping and drying
Remember that a pressurized leak often atomizes rather than dripping. A persistent fuel smell with dry ground underneath is a legitimate reason to inspect the hose and both connections by hand.
Tools, Parts, and a Ventilated Space
- Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
- A sealed approved fuel container plus a shallow catch pan
- Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure in the original inside diameter
- Fresh clamps of the correct style, and a quick-disconnect release tool if the tank end wears a locking coupler

Do the work outside or with the shop door wide open and air moving across the floor. Shut down every flame and pilot light in the space and keep an extinguisher within reach.
Removal, Installation, and Verification
With pressure relieved, pull the seat and side plastics to reach the tank outlet and follow the run toward the throttle body. Slide worm-gear or spring clamps well back before disturbing a joint. Compress a quick-connect coupler's locking tabs squarely and pull the fitting straight off, never levering it sideways. Twist a stuck hose gently on the barb to break the varnish bond, and slit a seized one lengthwise instead of damaging the fitting underneath. Photograph the routing before it is gone, noting that this 4x4 passes front differential hardware and frame crossmembers a two-wheel-drive quad does not, with the extended MAX wheelbase adding length and clips to the run.
Cut the replacement to the original length so it cannot loop into structure or drift toward exhaust heat. Warm a stubborn hose end in hot water instead. Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes a dry circuit and any seep shows immediately. Wipe both joints with a clean rag, inspect closely, then start the engine and check once more at idle before the panels return.
