The supply hose therefore holds pressure whenever the key has been on, and that shapes the order of operations from the very first step.

Knowing the System You Are Opening

Lift the seat and pull the center console panel and the arrangement becomes clear: the tank sits low in the frame, the pump flange caps it, and a short run of semi-rigid hose heads forward to the throttle body. Many connections on this platform use a self-locking quick-connect coupler rather than a plain barb and worm-gear clamp, so identifying which style you have before ordering parts saves a wasted trip. This is a selectable 2WD/4WD chassis, and the extra front differential and driveshaft hardware means the hose threads through a somewhat tighter corridor than a two-wheel-drive utility quad presents. How Rubber Hose Deteriorates

A pressurized system frequently leaks without producing any puddle at all, since fuel forced through a hairline crack atomizes and evaporates. Do not clear the hose just because the concrete underneath it is dry.

Setting Up and Staying Safe

Have all of this ready before the first fitting comes apart:

Work outdoors when the weather allows. In a garage, open the door completely and put a fan at floor level moving air out of the building, shut off anything with a flame or glowing element, and keep an extinguisher within reach. Gloves matter because gasoline absorbs through skin and carries additives with it.

Relieving Pressure and Removing the Line

Pull the fuel pump fuse, crank the engine until it stalls, then switch the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable so the pump cannot energize while a joint is open. Position the drain pan and drape a rag over the fitting you plan to break first, since a bled circuit still holds standing fuel that will run out.

Push any clamp well back along the hose before you disturb the joint. Quick-connect couplers release by squeezing the locking tabs squarely and pulling straight along the fitting axis, never by prying to one side, because plastic collars crack under that load once they have some age on them. Reinstall the hose through every factory guide so it stays clear of exhaust heat and the front differential area.

Finish by reinstalling the pump fuse, Reconnecting the battery, and cycling the key on and off five or six times without cranking. Each cycle primes the pump and loads the hose to full pressure while the fittings are still dry, which is the ideal moment to spot a seep. Wipe both joints with a clean white rag and study it, then start the engine, inspect at idle, ride slowly around the yard, and look one final time. Keep in mind as well that the fuel filter on this Outlander is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than an inline element on the hose you just changed, so persistent starvation after a clean install points to that module rather than the new line.
