Identify how this machine moves fuel and the rest of the work becomes predictable.
Start by Identifying the Fuel Delivery
The 700 XT is fuel-injected. An electric pump submerged in the tank pressurizes the feed and pushes it forward to the throttle body on the Rotax single. The practical consequences stack up quickly: there is no petcock to close, no gravity feed to interrupt, and no float bowl drain screw to crack open. The circuit retains pressure after shutdown, so it must be bled down deliberately before any fitting is disturbed. The fuel filter is built into the in-tank pump assembly rather than sitting inline where you could see and replace it. Inspect both ends of the hose too, because some connections are self-locking quick-connect couplers with plastic release tabs rather than a barb with a worm-gear clamp, and that decides whether you need clamps, a release tool, or both.
Accessory Hardware and Access

The bore softens, swells slightly, and begins shedding fine material toward injector passages considerably tighter than any carburetor jet. Because that damage is invisible from outside, time in service justifies replacement even when a visual check looks acceptable.
Trouble Signs on the Trail and in the Garage
- Fuel smell concentrated around the tank, sharpest in the minutes right after the engine stops
- A damp ring or small pool on the skid plate or floor once the machine has been parked
- Visible cracking, a chalky gray cast, or a length that feels rigid rather than springy when pinched
- Bogging when the engine is loaded, hesitation on hard acceleration, or fuel starvation with plenty in the tank
- Dust welded into a band at a connection, marking a joint that has been seeping and drying
On a pressurized system small leaks frequently mist and evaporate before reaching the ground, so keep trusting your nose even when the concrete stays clean.
Assembling What You Need
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure, sized to the factory inside diameter
- New clamps in the correct style, or a quick-disconnect release tool for coupler fittings
- Line-clamping pliers, taking the place of the petcock this model does not have
- Nitrile or rubber gloves, safety glasses, and a generous supply of rags
- An approved sealed container for drained fuel and a shallow pan to catch spillage
- Sockets for the seat and plastics, a small flat-blade screwdriver, and a fresh razor blade
Treat the gasoline as the real hazard in this job. Vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, so ventilation at ground height is what counts. Work outside or open the shop door completely, shut down any appliance with a pilot flame in the space, keep grinders and torches out entirely, and put a fire extinguisher within arm's reach before you open a line.
Taking the Line Apart
Relieve pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it stumbles and dies, switch the key off, then disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the seat and enough side plastic to reach both ends of the hose. Slide the drain pan underneath and drape a rag over each connection as you open it, because a depressurized line still holds a meaningful amount of standing fuel.
Push each clamp well back before touching the fitting. Rotate the hose on the nipple to break the varnish that has bonded it, then pull it off straight rather than levering it. Quick-connects need both tabs depressed evenly and a pull in line with the fitting; sideways force cracks plastic. A hose that will not budge should be slit lengthwise and peeled off, which protects the nipple underneath. Note every clip and guide as it comes apart.
New Hose, Then Verification
Trim the new hose to the original length and nothing more, since excess line sags into the driveline or drapes onto hot exhaust. Push each end fully onto its fitting until it seats against the shoulder, and keep the whole process dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray stay away from fuel fittings, because any film on the sealing surface hands pressurized fuel a route to creep out and produces a slow weep that is a genuine pain to find. Hot water is the right softener for a stubborn end.
Install clamps just behind the raised bead on each nipple, tightening evenly until the hose is firmly captured without the band cutting the wall. Restore the hose to its factory clips and guides so the routing stays clear of moving parts and heat.
To finish, reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off five times without cranking so the pump brings the line to working pressure. Wipe both fittings dry and watch for a bead of fuel. Start the engine and inspect once more at idle, since vibration occasionally exposes a joint that sealed while static. After several minutes of clean running, reinstall the plastics and dispose of the captured fuel properly. If a bog under load persists, the in-tank filter is the next place to look.
