Replacing the Fuel Line on a 2024 Grizzly 700Fi 4x4 EPS XT-R

A newer machine does not exempt you from fuel system inspection. The 2024 Grizzly 700Fi has plenty of service life ahead of it, but the hose feeding its throttle body is a rubber component in a hot, vibrating environment, and it is worth learning to check now so you recognize trouble later. When the time comes to replace it, the injected fuel system dictates how the job goes.

Putting Eyes and Hands on the Hose

Lift the seat, pull the side panel, and give yourself a clear view of the hose running from the tank back to the throttle body. Then work methodically:

  • Slide a gloved hand along the full length, feeling for hardened, glassy sections rather than uniform softness
  • Inspect the bends closely, since flex concentrates there and cracks appear there first
  • Check both fittings for a caked ring of dirt or mud, the residue of fuel that has weeped and dried repeatedly
  • Look at the skid plate and the floor under the machine for wet patches after it has sat overnight
  • Note any gasoline smell that lingers around the center of the quad in the minutes after shutdown
  • Recall how it has been running: bogging in a climb, hesitation off throttle, or a lean surge all suggest restricted delivery

An important nuance for an injected machine: a pinhole on the pressure side can atomize into vapor and evaporate before it reaches the ground, so a persistent smell counts as a finding even with a bone dry floor beneath it.

What the Fi Badge Means for the Procedure

This Grizzly uses electronic fuel injection, with an electric pump inside the tank pushing fuel under pressure to the throttle body. Because nothing is gravity fed, there is no petcock beneath the tank to shut off, and the habit of closing a valve before disconnecting a hose has no equivalent here. Instead, you bleed the pressure out of the circuit first, then use line clamping pliers to pinch the hose closed so the tank does not siphon while you work.

Parts follow from the same fact. The replacement hose must be rated for injection pressure and match the original inside diameter; low pressure carburetor hose is the wrong choice regardless of how similar the two look. And since filtration on this platform is built into the in-tank pump assembly rather than sitting inline on the visible hose, a fresh hose addresses hose faults and leaves filter restriction as a separate matter.

The Mechanisms Behind Hose Failure

Heat cycling is the outside attack. Over years of warmup and cooldown, plasticizers migrate out of the rubber compound and the hose stiffens, losing the flexibility it needs to move with a chassis that works constantly on rough ground. Cracks then start at bends and at the shoulders where clamps grip. Dry, arid air speeds that process by drawing residual moisture out of the hose wall, so identical hose ages faster in desert country than in a humid region.

Ethanol blended pump gas is the inside attack. Alcohol draws in atmospheric moisture and slowly degrades the inner liner, leaving gum and softened material. That damage concentrates during stretches when the machine sits and fuel stands motionless in the line rather than flowing. The two mechanisms are independent, which is exactly why a hose can look fine externally and still be compromised.

Tools, Parts, and Working Around Gasoline

Stage injection rated hose in the original inside diameter, new clamps sized to it, a quick connect release tool if the pump plate uses a locking coupler, line clamping pliers, nitrile gloves, eye protection, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, a generous supply of rags, sockets, a screwdriver, and a sharp utility knife.

Ventilation deserves genuine care. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and creeps along the floor rather than escaping through a window above your head, which makes a closed garage containing a water heater, furnace, or shop heater a poor place to open a pressurized fuel line. Work outdoors when the weather allows, or with the overhead door fully raised and a fan pushing air across the floor to move vapor out at ground level. Shut down every pilot light and heating element, keep an extinguisher within reach, and take fuel soaked rags outside instead of leaving them in a shop bin.

Swapping Hose, Start to Finish

Bleed the pressure first: pull the fuel pump fuse from the box under the seat, run the engine until it starves and stalls, key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable. With the bodywork already off from your inspection, position a drain pan under the joint and lay a rag over it before releasing it, since a bled line still holds fuel.

Slide the clamps well clear of the barbs before disturbing the fittings. A plastic quick connect wants its release tabs squeezed squarely and the coupler drawn straight off the nipple, never levered sideways. Where hose has varnished onto a barb, twist it gently to break the bond, and if it holds fast, slit it lengthwise with the knife and peel it away rather than prying on the fitting. Record the routing before the hose is out: this chassis combines four wheel drive with independent rear suspension, so front differential hardware and rear linkage both create clearance points and clip locations a 2WD layout would not have.

Cut the new hose to the exact length of the original, because surplus length sags onto a frame tube and chafes or drifts toward the exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, entirely dry. Keep grease, oil, and silicone off the sealing surfaces, since lubricant there gives pressurized fuel a channel to creep along and weep. Hot water is the right way to soften a hose end that resists. Position new clamps just behind the raised bead at each fitting and tighten evenly, snug without crushing, and give a self locking quick connect no clamp at all — press until the collar clicks, then tug firmly to confirm the latch. Return the hose to every original clip.

Confirming It Is Sealed

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking the engine. Each cycle runs the pump and brings the hose up to pressure, letting you examine both connections while they are still dry, which is when a slow weep is easiest to spot. Wipe the fittings with a clean rag, look and feel carefully for any fuel forming at the joints, then start the engine and inspect a second time at idle. Give it several minutes of clean running, take a slow lap around the yard, and check both joints once more while everything is warm before the bodywork goes back on for good.
