The fuel hose on a 2024 Grizzly 700 4x4 EPS lives in a hot, vibrating environment and has one job it cannot afford to fail at. Before you begin, get the fuel system straight in your head: this Grizzly is fuel injected, with the pump mounted inside the tank and the delivery line held under pressure whenever the key is on. There is no petcock beneath the tank, so the job opens with depressurizing the circuit rather than closing a valve and draining a bowl.
What Fuel Injection Changes About This Job
Three practical consequences follow. First, pressure has to come out of the system before any fitting is opened, or you will get a face full of gasoline. Second, the replacement has to be hose rated for injection pressure, not general purpose tubing meant for a gravity feed carburetor. Third, one or both ends may use a self locking quick connect coupler rather than a barb and a clamp, so look closely at what you actually have before you order parts.
Because this is a four wheel drive machine with electric power steering, the front differential and steering assist components sit close to the hose corridor. Nothing about the procedure differs from a two wheel drive quad, but access is tighter and you will spend more time getting a hand into position than you will turning tools.
Recognizing a Line on Its Way Out
A gasoline smell that persists around the seat area after shutdown is usually the first clue, and it is worth trusting even before you see anything. Follow that up by looking for fuel pooling under the center of the chassis, a wet stripe running down a frame tube, or a dark ring of dust cemented at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried over and over. Then run your fingers along the whole hose. Hard, glassy sections and fine surface crazing both mean the compound is spent, and a soft or ballooned spot at a barb means the inner liner has broken down.
Drivability changes belong on the same list. A Grizzly that bogs as the throttle opens, stumbles lean partway up a long climb, or behaves like the tank is nearly dry may be losing pressure through a failing hose. Keep in mind that on a pressurized line, a pinhole often sprays a mist that evaporates before it drips, so a convincing smell with a dry floor still deserves a proper inspection with the pump running.
The Real Reasons Hose Fails
Rubber gives up from the outside as it loses the plasticizers that keep it flexible. Engine heat, ultraviolet exposure, and years of expansion and contraction all drive that loss, and the flexing that comes with rough terrain then cracks the hardened wall. Riders in dry country get there first, since air with very little moisture in it pulls the hose stiff from the surface inward.
The liner degrades independently. Ethanol blended pump fuel holds water in suspension and slowly attacks the inner surface, and gasoline left standing for months leaves gum and varnish as its light fractions evaporate. Those deposits restrict flow and shed particles into the injection system. Since the interior cannot be inspected, hose age is worth as much attention as visible cracking.
Tools, Parts, and Vapor Awareness
- Nitrile or rubber gloves plus eye protection
- A shallow drain pan and a sealed container approved for gasoline
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure in the factory inside diameter
- Fresh clamps in the correct style, and a release tool if your quick connect needs one
- Line clamping pliers, which stand in for the petcock this model does not have
- A razor blade, plenty of rags, and hand tools for the seat and side panels
Take the ventilation piece at face value. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and gathers at floor level right where you kneel, and it can build up well before the smell becomes alarming. Roll the machine outdoors or open the garage door completely with a fan low to the ground moving air away from you. Shut off pilot lights on any nearby appliance, keep grinders and hot work lights out of the space, disconnect the battery negative cable before opening a fitting, and keep the drain container capped between pours.
Removing the Old Hose
Pull the fuel pump fuse from the block beneath the seat, then try to start the engine so it consumes the pressure remaining in the line. Turn the key off and disconnect the battery. Remove the seat and center bodywork, expose the tank outlet, and follow the hose forward toward the throttle body, photographing each clip and clearance point before anything is disturbed.
Slide the pan into position and drape a rag across the fitting you plan to open, since residual fuel will run out even from a depressurized hose. Ease clamps well back along the hose before breaking the joint. Where varnish has bonded the rubber to a barb, slit the hose lengthwise with a razor and peel it away rather than levering on a weathered fitting. A quick connect coupler releases with its tabs squeezed squarely and a straight pull, no side loading. As the hose comes free, confirm exactly how it passed the front differential bracing so the new one can follow the same route.
Installation and Confirming a Dry Result
Cut the replacement to the original length and no longer, because surplus hose ends up chafing a frame tube or drifting toward exhaust heat once the plastics are on. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out against the shoulder, working dry throughout. Grease, oil, and silicone all give pressurized fuel a path around the seal and can carry contaminants downstream, so keep the fittings clean. A hose end dipped in hot water for half a minute pushes on without prying.
Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug enough to seal without cutting into the rubber. If the tank end uses a self locking quick connect, push until the collar clicks and then pull firmly to verify the latch caught, because that fitting needs no clamp. Reinstall the hose through every original clip so it sits clear of the driveline and hot surfaces.
Refit the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the line while everything is still clean. Inspect both joints with a dry rag, then start the engine and check once more at idle before the bodywork returns. One last platform note: the fuel filter on this injected Grizzly is inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than inline on the hose, so if delivery still feels weak after a leak free install, that module is your next stop.
