Ask any wrench what turns a simple hose swap into a bad afternoon and the answer is skipping the pressure bleed. The 2024 KingQuad 750AXi is fuel injected, exactly as the AXi name promises, so the hose running from the tank to the throttle body is under pressure whenever the key is on and a pump inside the tank is doing the pushing. No petcock exists to stop flow, which means the sequence you follow matters more than the wrenching itself.

Killing Pressure the Right Way

Locate and pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, then bump the starter until the 722cc single dies. That empties the pressure out of the circuit and turns the line into ordinary rubber. Switch off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable so the pump cannot be energized by accident. Only after that should the seat and the fender plastics above the tank come off, exposing both ends of the hose and the clips along its path.

Tools, Replacement Parts, and Fuel Handling

Assemble the following before you open anything up:

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves and eye protection
  • An approved metal or fuel-rated plastic container with a lid
  • Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure, matched to the original inside diameter
  • New clamps in the original style, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if a locking coupler sits at the pump flange
  • Line-clamping pliers to pinch off a low-pressure segment, standing in for the fuel valve this machine does not have
  • Basic hand tools, a razor knife, and a stack of clean rags

Ventilation deserves a real mention. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools low across the floor, so an open window well above the machine accomplishes nothing. Roll the quad outside or raise the shop door fully, extinguish pilot lights, unplug heaters, and keep anything that sparks out of the space until the fuel system is sealed again.

Getting the Original Hose Out

Slide a catch pan underneath and drape a rag over each fitting before you loosen it, since a bled line still holds fuel that will run out the moment it comes free. Move worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose first rather than fighting a connection with a clamp still clamped. If your 750AXi uses a quick-connect coupler at the pump, compress the tabs squarely and pull the fitting straight off; levering it sideways cracks collars that stiffen with age and heat.

Dried varnish tends to bond old hose to its barbs. A gentle rotation usually shears that bond, and a lengthwise cut with a fresh razor lets you peel off anything truly seized without damaging the metal fitting underneath. Take stock of the routing while the old hose is still clipped in place. Being a 4x4, this chassis threads the line past front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers, and the power steering assembly further narrows the working room ahead of the engine.

Installing and Clamping the New Line

Trim the replacement to match the original length precisely. Extra hose is not spare capacity, it is a future chafe point against a frame tube or an exhaust surface. Seat each end dry onto its barb, driving it fully past the raised retaining bead, and keep grease, oil, and silicone entirely away from the fittings. A lubricant film on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a channel to escape past even a correctly tightened clamp. Hot water is the only assist a stiff hose end should get.

Position the new clamps just behind the bead on each fitting and tighten evenly. Firm without crushing is the target, since a clamp buried into the hose wall creates the next leak. A self-locking quick-connect gets pushed until the collar clicks and then tugged to confirm it latched, and no clamp belongs on it. Route the hose back through every original guide so it stays clear of the front driveline, steering components, and header.

Why Fuel Lines Deteriorate

The rubber gives up from both directions. Heat cycling over years drives the plasticizers out of the hose wall, and once they are gone the material hardens until it splits rather than flexing with a frame that never stops working. Dry climates accelerate this by pulling residual moisture out of the hose, so quads in arid country commonly show cracking at the bends earlier than their age would suggest.

Ethanol-blended fuel attacks from the bore side. Alcohol draws water into the fuel and slowly degrades the inner liner, and a KingQuad parked for months with gas sitting in the plumbing can end up gummy inside while the exterior turns brittle. Whatever flakes loose travels toward the injector. Neither process is loud, which is why hose age carries as much weight as a visual inspection.

Symptoms and the Final Leak Check

Before and after the repair, know what a failing line looks like. Fuel puddled beneath the frame overnight, a sharp gasoline smell around the seat that peaks right after shutdown, visible cracking or a chalky hardened texture, and running problems such as bogging under load or a lean stumble on a climb all point at the supply hose. On a pressurized system, escaping fuel often vaporizes before it drips, so a smell without a puddle still counts.

To verify the new line, reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. The pump primes each cycle and loads the hose with pressure while you inspect it dry. Wipe both joints with a clean rag and check by feel as well as sight, then start the engine and look again at idle before the plastics go back on. Hold out for several minutes of leak-free running.

Worth noting as you finish: this injected KingQuad carries its fuel filter inside the tank within the pump module rather than inline where you could swap it in the driveway. Fresh hose fixes a bad hose, so if the 2024 still feels short of fuel at high rpm, the in-tank assembly is the next stop.
