Even a machine as current as a 2024 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS eventually needs fuel hose. Rubber begins aging the day it leaves the factory, and a quad that works hard in heat, dust, and water accumulates that aging faster than the odometer suggests. Doing the job right on an injected machine means respecting the pressure in the system and being deliberate about every fitting you touch.

Tools and Materials to Have Ready

Stage everything before the seat comes off, because you do not want to be walking across the shop with an open fuel line behind you:

  • Replacement hose rated for fuel-injection pressure, matched to the original inside diameter — general-purpose carburetor line is not appropriate on this machine
  • Fresh clamps sized to whichever fitting style you find along the run
  • A quick-disconnect release tool, in case the tank outlet uses a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers for pinching off a low-pressure section, since there is no petcock to close
  • Nitrile gloves and safety glasses
  • A sealed fuel-safe container plus a drain pan
  • Screwdrivers, needle-nose pliers, a socket set for plastics and tank hardware, and a sharp utility blade
  • A generous stack of rags and a flashlight for tracing routing

Ventilation and Handling Gasoline

Gasoline vapor is denser than air, which means it drops toward the floor and lingers there instead of escaping through a window above your head. Since the floor is where you will be kneeling, real ventilation matters: open the shop door fully so air moves through the bay, or push the quad outside and work in the open. Then walk the space and remove ignition sources, concentrating on anything low — an unvented heater, a drop light with an exposed hot bulb, a grinder or torch in the same bay, an appliance pilot flame in an adjoining corner. Wear the gloves so gasoline is not sitting against your skin, keep an extinguisher within arm's reach, and cap the drained fuel container immediately rather than leaving an open pan on the ground while you fetch a tool.

Confirming the Fuel Delivery Layout

This machine runs fuel injection, so there is no petcock beneath the tank and no valve to shut off flow. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes a line that carries fuel forward to the throttle bodies on the 749cc V-twin, and that pressure remains in the circuit for hours after shutdown. Bleeding it down before opening a fitting is not optional. The filter travels with the pump inside the tank rather than sitting inline on the hose, so a restricted filter is not something new hose will resolve.

Expect the tank outlet to possibly use a self-locking quick-connect coupler held by a plastic collar with release tabs rather than a clamped barb. And as a 4x4 model, this chassis carries front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers that a two-wheel-drive quad does not, giving the hose an additional clearance point or two along its route.

How Hose Deteriorates

Externally, the plasticizers that keep fuel line supple slowly migrate out of the rubber wall, leaving material that is stiff and glassy rather than flexible. Heat cycling from the V-twin drives that loss, and dry climates drive it further by drawing residual moisture out of the rubber. A hose that has lost its flex cannot absorb the vibration a heavy utility machine puts into it on rock and washboard, so fine surface checking gradually opens into a crack.

Internally, ethanol-blended gasoline degrades the liner. Alcohol in the fuel absorbs atmospheric moisture and slowly breaks down the inner surface, and fuel that sits unused through a long stretch causes the most damage. As the liner softens it sheds fine rubber into a circuit feeding injector orifices measured in thousandths of an inch, which is a considerably less forgiving destination than a carburetor bowl.

Signs a Line Is Failing

Look for a wet patch or small puddle on the skid plate or garage floor after the machine has been parked, and for a gasoline smell near the tank that is strongest right after shutdown while pressure is still held. Inspect the hose itself for cracking, a chalky white bloom, or a hardened section you can feel when you flex it, and check each fitting for a dark grit-caked ring, which is dried fuel from repeated weeping. On the running side, bogging under load, a stumble on hard acceleration, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm all point the same way. Remember that a pressure-side leak may atomize and evaporate before it drips, so a strong smell with a dry floor is still worth chasing.

Removal, Installation, and the Final Check

Relieve pressure first: pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine briefly until it stalls, shut the key off, and disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the seat and the side plastics covering the tank outlet and the run heading toward the throttle bodies. Slide the pan underneath and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, since residual fuel remains in the line after bleed-down. Walk any clamp well back before disturbing a fitting; on a quick-connect, press the release tabs squarely and pull straight off rather than levering sideways, because aged plastic collars crack under side load. Twist a varnish-bonded hose gently to free it, or slit it lengthwise and peel it away if it refuses. Photograph the routing before the old hose is fully clear.

Cut the new hose to the original length with nothing extra, then push each end on dry until it bottoms against the barb shoulder. Keep grease, oil, and silicone entirely off the fittings, because lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path out. Hot water softens a stiff end if it resists. Set clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly, and where a self-locking quick-connect is used, push until the collar clicks and pull firmly to confirm the latch, leaving that joint without a clamp. Reseat the hose in every factory clip, clear of the front driveline and away from exhaust heat.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the circuit while surfaces are still dry. Wipe both joints with a clean rag and watch for a bead forming. Start the engine, let it idle for several minutes, and inspect once more with full operating pressure and vibration present. Only then should the plastics go back on.
