The Shopping and Tool List

Injection-pressure hose is the one substitution not worth making. General purpose low pressure line intended for gravity feed applications will not hold up in a pressurized circuit, and it fails in the least convenient way possible.
Handling Fuel Without Taking Chances
Gasoline vapor is denser than air, so it flows downward and pools at floor level, which is precisely where you will be working with an open drain pan. Gloves keep raw fuel out of your skin for the length of the job, and fuel-soaked rags belong outside as soon as they are wet rather than in a pile behind you.
How This Quad Actually Delivers Fuel
The 2024 CFORCE 400 is fuel-injected, which reshapes several steps compared to the carbureted quads many owners learned on. There is no petcock valve beneath the tank to close and no float bowl drain screw. An electric pump mounted inside the tank feeds a pressurized supply line to the throttle body, and the pressure lingers after shutdown. That is why the circuit gets bled deliberately before anything comes apart, and why line-clamping pliers earn a place on the tool list. The fuel filter is also integrated with the in-tank pump module instead of sitting inline where you could reach it on the visible hose.
Why the Original Line Wears Out
Two processes work on the rubber at once. From outside, heat cycles from the engine and sunlight drive out the plasticizers that keep hose flexible, so what was soft becomes stiff and eventually glassy. Dry air accelerates it by pulling moisture from the hose wall, which is why the same 400 shows cracked line sooner in arid country than in humid regions. Once rigid, everyday chassis flex over rough ground turns fine checking into leaking splits.
From inside, ethanol-blended gasoline attracts moisture and slowly degrades the inner liner, most aggressively when the machine sits with fuel standing in the hose. The line softens internally while hardening externally and sheds fine debris toward the injector. That inner damage stays hidden during any visual inspection, making hose age a more reliable replacement trigger than how the outside looks.
Symptoms That Should Prompt a Look
A gasoline smell hanging around the machine, especially in the minutes right after shutdown when pressure is still present, is often the first clue. Wet spots or dried stains on the concrete beneath the tank are next. Pinch the hose along its run: sound line yields and rebounds, while worn line feels hard and hollow or shows a chalky surface. Performance tells its own story, with bogging under load, hesitation on quick throttle, or an engine acting starved while the tank is far from empty. Extended cranking before a cold start commonly means pressure bled off overnight. Because escaping fuel from a pressurized fitting often evaporates before it drips, do not dismiss a persistent smell just because the floor is dry.
Removing the Old Hose
Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it stalls from fuel starvation, then key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and any panels covering the tank outlet, and trace the hose forward to the throttle body so its whole path is known before you disturb it.
Slide the drain pan into position and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, since standing fuel remains even after depressurizing. Move worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before twisting anything loose. On a quick-connect, depress the tabs squarely and pull straight off rather than levering, as aged collars split under side load. Varnish often glues old hose to the barb; a gentle twist breaks the bond, and a lengthwise razor slit lets you peel away a truly stuck hose without damaging the fitting.
Document the routing as you go. The 400 is a 4x4 with selectable two-wheel drive, so front differential and driveline hardware create clearance points a two-wheel-drive quad avoids. A few photographs of clips and guides make reassembly straightforward.
Fitting the New Line and Verifying the Seal
Trim the replacement to the original length so nothing sags into a frame tube or drifts toward hot exhaust. Seat each end completely onto its barb, dry. Grease, oil, and silicone have no business on a fuel fitting, since any film on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path to creep out past the hose wall. A quick dip in hot water softens a stiff end enough to slide on by hand.
Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly without crushing the hose. If a self-locking quick-connect is used at the tank, push until the collar clicks, then tug to confirm the latch, and leave that joint without a clamp. Return the hose to every factory guide before the plastics go back on.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle pressurizes the circuit so you can study both joints while everything is dry. Wipe each connection, then start the engine and inspect again at idle and with a few throttle blips. If delivery trouble persists after a leak-free installation, remember the filter lives in the tank with the pump and is the next component to evaluate.
