Confirming What You Are Working With

Because this is a 4x4, the supply hose runs past front driveline hardware and additional frame bracing on its way from the tank to the throttle body. How Fuel Hose Deteriorates

Tools, Parts, and a Real Safety Note
Collect everything before you open a fitting:
- Nitrile or rubber gloves, since gasoline strips skin oils fast
- An approved metal or fuel-rated plastic container to catch what drains
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure and matched to the original inside diameter — low-pressure carburetor hose will not survive here
- Fresh clamps in the correct style, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if your PRO uses a locking coupler at the tank outlet
- Line-clamping pliers for pinching off any low-pressure section, since no petcock exists on this model

Do this outside or with the shop door fully open. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, so air movement down low matters far more than a cracked window overhead. Kill every ignition source in the area, including trouble lights, battery chargers, and anything with a pilot flame.
Removing the Old Hose
Relieve pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine for a couple of seconds until it stalls out, switch the key off, and then disconnect the negative battery terminal. Take off the seat and whatever side panels block access to the tank outlet and the run of hose heading toward the throttle body. Slide a catch pan beneath the work area and drape a rag over the first fitting you separate, because residual fuel will still come out of a depressurized line.
Slide worm-gear or spring clamps well back on the hose before disturbing anything. For a quick-connect coupler, press the release tabs squarely and pull straight off without levering sideways, since aged plastic collars crack when twisted. Break the varnish bond at each barb with a gentle rotation rather than a hard pull, and if a hose end has effectively glued itself on, slice it lengthwise and peel it away instead of risking damage to the fitting. Photograph the routing, including every retaining clip and the points where the line passes front differential hardware, before the old piece is completely free.
Installing the New Line
Cut the replacement to match the original length exactly. Extra hose is not insurance; it sags into the frame or the front driveline and chafes through. Push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, and install it dry. No grease, no oil, no silicone spray on the sealing surfaces — any lubricant there gives pressurized fuel a path to creep past the clamp. A quick dip of the hose end in hot water softens it enough to slide on without help.
Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug rather than crushing. Where the PRO XU uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until you hear and feel the collar click, then pull firmly to verify it has latched; that style needs no clamp at all. Return the hose to its factory clips so it stays away from exhaust heat and moving front-drive components.
Leak Check and Wrap-Up
Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and builds pressure, letting you inspect both joints while everything is still dry and easy to read. Wipe the fittings with a clean rag, look for any bead forming, then start the engine and check again at idle with the machine level.
