If varnish has locked a hose to its barb, twist gently to break the bond, and if it holds, cut it lengthwise and peel it off rather than risking the fitting. Photograph every clip before the hose is completely out.

Installation Details That Prevent Leaks

Cut the new hose to match the original length precisely. Surplus length is not helpful; it lets the line sag toward hot exhaust or saw against a frame edge, and both problems show up as a leak eventually. Push each end onto its barb dry, seating it fully past the raised bead. Do not put grease, oil, or silicone anywhere near a fuel fitting. A lubricant film on the sealing surface is exactly how pressurized fuel creeps out from under a clamp, and it defeats the purpose of the whole job. If an end refuses to slide on, soften it briefly in hot water.

Set new clamps just behind each fitting bead and tighten them evenly, tight enough to seal without cutting into the hose. Route the hose back through every original clip and check clearance with the suspension at rest.

Verification and the Filter You Cannot See

Each cycle runs the pump and brings the hose up to pressure while the engine stays cold, giving you a calm, dry environment for inspection. Once it holds, start the engine, let it idle several minutes, and check again while warm, since heat can expose a marginal seal that passed cold.
