Knowing exactly what you are working on is the first step on this job. The 2023 Grizzly 700Fi carries electronic fuel injection, an in-tank pump, and no fuel shutoff valve of any kind, and every decision in the procedure follows from those three facts. Sort out the system before the tools come out and the replacement is uneventful.

Mapping the Fuel Path

Fuel leaves the tank through an electric pump mounted inside it, travels under pressure through the hose you are replacing, and arrives at the throttle body where the injector meters it into the engine. There is no gravity feed anywhere in that description, which is why there is no petcock to reach under and close. The circuit also holds residual pressure after the key goes off, and that pressure has to be released deliberately before you loosen anything.

Your parts choice follows the same logic. Hose must be rated for injection pressure and match the original inside diameter, since soft low pressure carburetor hose is not built for this service even though it looks similar. Filtration on this platform sits inside the tank as part of the pump assembly instead of hanging inline where you can reach it, which is a useful boundary to remember: a new hose cures hose defects, while a restricted in-tank filter is its own repair.

Reading the Hose Before It Fails

A hose in decline gives you evidence in several forms:

  • A wet patch or small puddle on the skid plate or floor beneath the middle of the quad after it has been parked
  • A gasoline odor that hangs in the air, strongest during the first few minutes after shutdown while the line is still pressurized
  • Fine cracks or crazing on the surface, appearing first at the bends where flex concentrates
  • A hard, glassy feel under a pinch rather than the soft compression of healthy rubber
  • Bogging on a climb, hesitation as you roll on throttle, or a lean surge that mimics a nearly empty tank
  • Dirt and mud caked into a ring at a fitting, which marks fuel that has weeped and evaporated repeatedly

Because a pressure side pinhole on an injected machine can atomize into vapor without dripping, treat a persistent smell as real evidence even when the floor stays dry.

The Two Ways Rubber Gives Out

From the outside, heat is the culprit. Repeated warmup and cooldown cycles drive plasticizers out of the rubber compound, and once they are gone the hose is stiff rather than pliable. It stops moving with a chassis that flexes constantly on rough ground, and cracks start at bends and at the shoulders where clamps grip. Dry, low humidity air speeds that hardening up, so the same hose that lasts a long time in a damp climate ages faster in high desert country.

From the inside, ethanol blended pump gas is the problem. Alcohol attracts moisture and gradually attacks the inner liner, leaving gum and softened material that can shed downstream. The damage is worst during long stretches when the machine sits and fuel stands motionless against the liner rather than flowing. Between the two mechanisms, a hose can look perfectly acceptable and still be the weakest part of the fuel system.

Supplies and a Word About Fumes

Gather injection rated hose in the correct inside diameter, new clamps to fit, a quick connect release tool if the pump plate uses a locking coupler, line clamping pliers to serve as the missing shutoff, nitrile gloves, eye protection, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, plenty of rags, sockets, a screwdriver, and a sharp knife.

Then think about the air. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and travels across the floor instead of leaving through a window at head height. Opening a pressurized fuel line inside a closed garage that also houses a water heater, furnace, or shop heater is a genuine hazard rather than a technicality. Work outdoors if the weather allows, or with the door fully raised and a fan pushing air along the floor. Shut off pilot lights and heating elements, keep an extinguisher close, and take fuel soaked rags outside instead of leaving them in a bin.

Out With the Old

Bleed the pressure first. Pull the fuel pump fuse from the box under the seat, run the engine until it starves and quits, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and side plastics, keeping the XT-R trim hardware sorted, and follow the hose from the pump plate to the throttle body.

Slide the drain pan into position and drape a rag over the joint as you release it, since a bled line still carries a slug of fuel. Move the clamps well clear of the barbs before you disturb anything. On a plastic quick connect, compress the release tabs evenly and pull the coupler straight off the nipple rather than levering it to one side. Hose that has varnished onto a barb should be twisted gently to break the bond, and if it will not release, slit it lengthwise and peel it away instead of prying on the fitting.

Take note of the routing before the hose is out. This chassis pairs four wheel drive with independent rear suspension, so front differential hardware and rear suspension linkage both create clearance points and clip locations that a plain 2WD layout does not have. Photograph them while the original hose is still in place.

In With the New, and the Pressure Test

Cut the replacement to exactly the length of the old hose. Excess length sags onto a frame tube where it chafes, or drifts toward the exhaust where heat will finish it early. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, working entirely dry. Grease, oil, and silicone stay off the fittings, because lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a channel to creep out through. If a hose end resists, soften it in hot water for a few seconds.

Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug rather than crushed. A self locking quick connect takes no clamp: press until the collar clicks, then tug firmly to confirm it latched. Feed the hose back through every original clip so it stays clear of the driveline, the suspension linkage, and hot surfaces.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the hose so you can inspect both joints while everything is still dry, which is when a slow weep is easiest to catch. Wipe the fittings, look and feel for any bead of fuel, then start the engine and check again at idle. After several minutes of dry running, take a slow lap and inspect once more while the machine is warm before the bodywork goes back on.
