The mechanical part of this job takes maybe twenty minutes. The part that determines whether it goes well is deciding in advance where the fuel is going to end up. On a 2023 Sportsman 570 you are working with a pressurized supply hose fed by an electric pump inside the tank, because this machine runs the ProStar 567 single with electronic fuel injection. There is no petcock to turn off and no way to stop gravity from emptying whatever the hose holds once you open a fitting, so plan for the liquid before you plan for the wrench.

Containing the Fuel and Controlling Ignition Risk

Have an approved sealed container staged and a wide shallow pan positioned under the joint before anything comes apart. Open containers and coffee cans are not the answer; gasoline evaporates fast and the vapor is the hazard, not the liquid. That vapor is heavier than air, so it drops to the floor and spreads outward at ankle height, exactly where a water heater pilot, a shop heater, a trickle charger, or a grinder throwing sparks tends to live.

Roll the 570 outside if weather permits. If it has to stay in the shop, open the overhead door completely and set a fan on the floor moving air out of the building rather than circulating it. Keep a fire extinguisher an arm's length away, not across the room. Wear nitrile gloves the entire time, since pump fuel strips the oils out of skin on contact and carries its additives right through it.

Parts and Hand Tools to Have Ready

  • Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure, matched to the inside diameter of the original
  • New clamps in the style your machine uses, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if a self-locking coupler is fitted
  • Line-clamping pliers for any low pressure or vent hose, since no shutoff valve exists on this platform
  • A razor knife, clean rags, a bright flashlight, and sockets for the seat and side plastics

The Reasons Hose Hardens and Splits

Two separate processes wear the rubber out. Externally, plasticizers that keep the compound supple migrate out under repeated heat cycles from the engine and the constant vibration of a utility quad at work. The hose stiffens, and once stiff it can no longer flex with the chassis, so hairline cracks open at bends and clip points and creep inward. Dry climates accelerate this by pulling residual moisture out of the hose wall.

Internally, ethanol-blended pump gas attacks the liner. E10 absorbs atmospheric water, and fuel left standing in the hose through a long idle stretch degrades the inner surface while depositing gum and varnish at the barbs. Because the two mechanisms are unrelated, a hose can appear entirely sound outside while its liner is already shedding fine material toward the injector.

Symptoms That Justify the Job

  • Gasoline odor near the tank, strongest in the first minutes after shutdown while the line still holds pressure
  • A crusted dust ring at either fitting where seepage has dried repeatedly
  • Surface checking, a chalky texture, or a hard glassy section you can feel by squeezing the hose
  • A stain, damp patch, or genuine puddle beneath the machine after it has been parked overnight
  • Bogging under load, hesitation on a hard pull, or a lean surge that feels like a nearly empty tank

Because pressurized fuel escaping a pinhole frequently atomizes and evaporates before it can drip, a dry floor is not evidence of a healthy hose on this injected machine.

Depressurizing and Extracting the Old Hose

Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay and crank the engine for a few seconds until it starves and stalls, which relieves system pressure. Turn the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable so the pump cannot energize accidentally. Take the seat off and remove the side plastics needed to expose the tank flange and the run heading to the throttle body. Lay a rag over the first joint before opening it, since standing fuel remains in the hose whatever the pressure state.

Slide clamps well back along the hose before disturbing the fitting itself. On a self-locking quick-connect, compress both release tabs evenly and pull straight off the nipple; sideways prying is what cracks aged plastic collars. Where varnish has cemented hose to barb, break the bond with a gentle quarter turn twist, and if it holds, slit the hose lengthwise and peel it away instead of levering on the fitting. Photograph the routing before the old piece is completely clear. As a 4x4 chassis, this Sportsman routes its line past front differential and driveline hardware, so it travels farther and passes through more clips than a two wheel drive machine would need.

Installing the Replacement

Cut the new hose to the same length as the old one. Extra hose does not help and eventually chafes on a frame edge or drifts toward something rotating. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone spray must never touch a fuel fitting, because a lubricated sealing surface hands pressurized fuel a route to migrate out from under the clamp. If an end resists, dip it in hot water for ten or fifteen seconds and it will slide on unassisted.

Set fresh clamps just inboard of the raised bead on each fitting so they cannot walk off, and tighten them evenly rather than aggressively. A quick-connect coupler takes no clamp: push until the collar clicks audibly, then pull firmly to confirm the latch caught. Return the hose to every original clip so it maintains its clearance from exhaust heat and the front drive components.

Pressure Testing Before the First Ride

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off four or five times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit while everything around it is still clean, which is the best condition in which to catch a weep. Study both joints, wipe them down, and inspect once more. Then start the engine and hold a clean white rag near each fitting for a minute or two at idle before the plastics and seat go back on.

One closing platform note: the fuel filter on the injected Sportsman 570 is integrated into the in-tank pump assembly rather than existing as a serviceable inline element on the visible hose. A new line does nothing for a restricted filter, so if fuel delivery symptoms persist after a clean installation, that module inside the tank is where the next round of diagnosis belongs.
