Both facts shape how the job goes.

Reading the Signs Before It Strands You

Give the hose a look whenever the seat is off, and pay attention to these:

  • Fuel pooling under the machine or beading on the skid plate after it sits parked
  • A sharp gas smell near the tank, strongest in the minutes after shutdown while pressure remains
  • Fine cracking, chalky discoloration, or a hard spot you can feel when you squeeze the hose
  • Bogging under load, a stumble on throttle transitions, or symptoms that mimic a nearly empty tank
  • Dried residue or a dust ring collected at a fitting, evidence of slow seepage

Because the circuit is pressurized, small leaks often mist and evaporate rather than dripping where you can see them. Do not dismiss a fuel odor just because the floor under the machine is dry.

Preparation and Real Fuel Safety

Assemble everything first:

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves plus safety glasses
  • An approved fuel container and a drain pan with room to spare
  • Hose rated for fuel injection pressure in the original inside diameter
  • Fresh clamps matching the style on the machine, and a quick-disconnect tool if the tank fitting is a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers to pinch off flow in place of the petcock this model lacks
  • Sockets and drivers for the seat, cargo box, and plastics, with rags and a sharp blade

Work outside, or with the garage door fully raised and a fan moving air at floor level. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles low, which puts it exactly where a water heater pilot, a furnace, or a shop heater can ignite it. Keep the battery disconnected while lines are open, cap your fuel container between pours, and do no grinding or welding in that space.

Depressurizing and Pulling the Old Line

Start by removing the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the starter briefly until the engine stalls or refuses to catch. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Remove the seat and enough bodywork to see the tank outlet clearly, then follow the hose forward toward the throttle body, noting each clip. Expect additional clearance points compared to a shorter chassis, several of them positioned to keep the line away from the extra rear driveline components this 6X6 carries.

Position the pan under the joint you plan to open first and cover the fitting with a rag before separating it, since standing fuel remains in the hose even with pressure relieved. On a quick-connect, press the locking tabs evenly and pull straight off, never levering sideways, because aged plastic collars snap. If varnish has bonded the hose to its barb, twist gently to break it loose, and if that fails, slit the hose lengthwise and peel it away. Photograph the routing before the old hose leaves the clips.

Fitting the New Hose and Testing It

Cut the replacement to the same length as what came off. If a self locking quick-connect handles the tank end, seat it until it clicks and tug to confirm the latch; no clamp goes there. Reinstall the hose in every factory clip and check clearance with the suspension settled at ride height.

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off five or six times without cranking the engine. Each cycle primes the pump and pressurizes the hose while everything is cold and still, which is the ideal condition for inspecting both joints with a light and a clean white rag. Any dampness means reseat and reclamp. When it stays dry, start the engine, idle several minutes, and check again with the system warm, since heat can reveal a marginal connection that held cold. Finally, remember the fuel filter on this injected model is part of the in-tank pump assembly rather than an inline unit on the visible hose, so persistent starvation after a clean install points inside the tank.
