Laying Out Parts and Preparing to Work Around Fuel
Collect all of this first:
- Nitrile or rubber gloves and safety glasses
- An approved sealed container for whatever fuel you capture
- Injection-rated hose matched to the original inside diameter, not general purpose carburetor line
- Fresh clamps in the same style as the originals, plus a release tool if your machine uses a locking quick-connect at the pump
- Line-clamping pliers, which substitute for the petcock the 750AXi does not have
- Sockets and drivers for the seat and fender panels, a razor knife, and a supply of clean rags
Take the gasoline handling seriously. Vapor is heavier than air and settles across the floor, so open the shop door completely or roll the machine outside rather than trusting a window. Pilot lights and space heaters get shut off, and nothing that sparks belongs in the area while the system is open.
Bleeding Down the System
Remove the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the 722cc single for a couple of seconds until it stalls. That converts a live pressure circuit into an ordinary hose. Switch off the key and disconnect the negative battery terminal before anything else comes apart. Lift the seat and pull the plastics above the tank so you can see the full run and its retaining clips.
Separating the Old Hose from Its Fittings

Varnish bonds old rubber to a metal barb, so twist gently to shear that bond rather than yanking. If a fitting still holds tight, run a razor down the length of the hose and peel it off in two pieces. Watch the routing carefully as you go, because on this 4x4 chassis the line has to pass front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers, with the power steering assembly reducing clearance ahead of the engine.
Making Up the New Connections
Match the length of the new hose to the old one and add nothing. Surplus slack ends up rubbing a frame tube or resting on hot exhaust. Push each end fully onto its barb, past the raised bead, and do it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone are all wrong here, since lubricant on a sealing surface hands pressurized fuel an escape path even under a properly torqued clamp. A few seconds in hot water is the right way to soften a stubborn end.
Set the clamps just behind the bead on each fitting and snug them uniformly, firm without digging into the hose wall. Where a self-locking quick-connect is used, press it until the collar clicks and then pull to verify engagement; no clamp goes on that style. Return the hose to every original clip so it stays away from the front driveline, steering linkage, and header pipe.
Understanding Why the Hose Failed
Two processes work against fuel line simultaneously. From the outside, repeated heat cycling drives off the plasticizers that keep rubber pliable, and a hose stripped of them turns stiff and glassy instead of flexing with the frame. Dry climates make it worse by pulling residual moisture out of the hose wall, so machines in arid country tend to crack at the bends first.
From the inside, ethanol-blended fuel introduces water and slowly attacks the liner. A 750AXi left parked for months with fuel in the plumbing can soften and gum internally while the exterior hardens, and that debris migrates toward the injector. Neither process is dramatic, which is exactly why hose age deserves as much weight as hose appearance when you inspect it.
Symptoms That Point at the Line
Look for fuel pooled beneath the frame after the machine sits, a strong gas odor around the seat that peaks right after shutdown, and visible cracking or a chalky, hardened texture on the hose itself. On the running side, bogging under load, a lean stumble pulling a grade, or hesitation that acts like a low tank all suggest restricted or leaking supply. Keep in mind that on a pressurized system fuel frequently atomizes at a small crack and evaporates before it drips, so trust a persistent smell even without a puddle.
Leak Check and Final Assembly
Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without starting the engine. Each cycle primes the pump and pressurizes the hose, letting you inspect both connections while they are still dry. Wipe them with a clean rag and check by feel as well as by eye, then fire the engine and look again at idle with the plastics still off. Only after several minutes of leak-free running should the bodywork go back on.
One closing detail specific to this platform: the fuel filter on the injected KingQuad is integrated into the in-tank pump module rather than mounted inline on the visible hose. Replacing the line cures a cracked line, but if the 2022 still feels starved at higher rpm once everything is sealed, the assembly inside the tank is the next place to check.
