Since both processes hide from a casual inspection, hose age is a more reliable trigger for replacement than appearance.
Hose, Clamps, and a Safe Workspace

- Rubber or nitrile gloves and eye protection
- A sealed fuel container plus a shallow drain pan
- Line-clamping pliers and a pick for the quick-connect retainer

On safety, the hazard is vapor more than liquid. Gasoline fumes are heavier than air, so they sink and travel along the floor to any flame or spark. Work outside or with the door fully open, keep a fan moving air low, unplug chargers and trouble lights, and have an extinguisher within arm's reach.
Working the Old Line Out

Note every clip along the way. This 4x4 chassis routes the line past front differential hardware, and the EPS unit and harness occupy nearby space the hose has to avoid.
Making the Fresh Connections Tight
Trim the new hose to the original length and no longer. Push each end fully onto its barb until it seats against the shoulder, working dry the whole time. Grease, oil, and silicone stay off fuel fittings, since anything slippery on that sealing surface becomes a leak path under pressure. Warm water on the hose end is the only assistance needed. Set new clamps just behind the bead and tighten evenly rather than crushing the rubber.
If the tank end uses a self-locking coupler, push until you hear the click, reinstall the retainer, and pull firmly to confirm it caught. No clamp belongs there. Return the hose to every factory guide so it never touches exhaust or hangs near the front driveline, then swing the bars fully both directions and verify nothing pulls tight.
Wet Check Before the Panels Return
Refit the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the hose. Inspect both joints while everything is dry, wipe them clean, then start the engine and check again at idle using good light and a fingertip.
