If there is one step on a 2022 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS that people skip and regret, it is bleeding the fuel pressure down. The temptation is understandable, since the engine has been off for hours and nothing looks live. But an injected fuel circuit is not gravity plumbing, and it does not stop holding pressure just because the machine has cooled off.
Bleeding Down the Circuit First
Locate and pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, then turn the key on and crank the engine. It will fire briefly and stall as the line empties, which drops most of the stored pressure out of the system. Switch the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable so nothing can energize the pump while your hands are in the fuel path. Only then start removing bodywork.
Even after that sequence, residual fuel remains in the hose, so treat every fitting as if it is wet. Slide a drain pan under the work area and lay a rag over the first joint you intend to open, letting the rag absorb what runs out instead of your gloves and the skid plate. This is also the moment to keep line-clamping pliers within reach, since without a petcock there is no valve to shut if you need to stop flow from a low-pressure section partway through the job.
How This Machine Delivers Fuel
The Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS is fuel injected. No petcock exists under the tank, and there is no valve of any kind you can close to stop flow. An electric pump mounted inside the tank pressurizes a line running forward to the throttle bodies on the 749cc V-twin. That architecture also puts the fuel filter inside the tank as part of the pump module rather than inline on the visible hose, which is important context if a delivery problem persists after new hose goes on.
Fitting style varies along the run. Some joints are conventional barbs with spring clips or worm-gear clamps, while the tank outlet may carry a self-locking quick-connect coupler retained by a plastic collar with release tabs. Identify which you are dealing with before applying force. And because this is a 4x4 chassis, front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers take up space a two-wheel-drive quad leaves open, so the hose threads past an additional clearance point or two.
Getting the Old Hose Out
With the seat and side plastics off and the tank outlet exposed, walk any clamp well back along the hose before you touch the fitting itself. On a quick-connect, depress the release tabs squarely and pull straight off along the axis of the fitting. Do not lever it to one side; plastic collars that have spent years exposed to heat and weather crack readily under side load, and replacing one is far more trouble than the hose you are removing.
Where fuel varnish has effectively glued the hose to a barb, twist it gently to shear the bond rather than pulling hard and straight. If that fails, run a sharp blade lengthwise along the hose and peel it off the fitting. Sacrificing a piece of hose you are throwing away anyway is always the right trade. Before the old line is fully clear, photograph or note every clip, guide, and tight gap it passes through so the new hose follows the same path.
Why the Hose Needed Replacing
Two mechanisms work in parallel. Externally, the plasticizers that keep fuel line pliable slowly migrate out of the rubber over the years, leaving a wall that is stiff and glassy instead of flexible. Heat cycling from the V-twin drives that along, and dry climates accelerate it further by pulling residual moisture out of the hose. A hardened line cannot absorb the vibration a heavy quad generates on rough ground, so fine surface checking eventually opens into a crack.
Internally, ethanol-blended gasoline breaks down the liner. Its alcohol content absorbs moisture and slowly degrades the inner surface, and fuel left standing for months does the most damage. The softened liner sheds fine particles into a circuit that pushes fuel through injector orifices measured in thousandths of an inch, so internal deterioration has real consequences on this machine.
Symptoms and Safe Setup
The signs to watch for are a wet patch or small puddle on the skid plate or floor after the quad has been parked, a gasoline smell around the tank that is strongest just after shutdown while pressure is still held, cracking or a chalky bloom or a rigid section you feel when flexing the hose, a dust-caked dark ring at a fitting from fuel weeping and drying, and on the running side, bogging under load, a stumble on hard throttle, or starvation at higher rpm. Keep in mind that a pressure-side leak can atomize and evaporate before dripping, so a persistent smell with a dry floor still counts.
For supplies you need hose rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter, new clamps sized to your fittings, a quick-disconnect release tool if a locking coupler is present, line-clamping pliers, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, screwdrivers, a socket set for plastics and tank hardware, a sharp blade, and plenty of rags. Work with the shop door fully open and real airflow moving, or outside altogether, because gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools along the floor rather than venting out a high window. Get every ignition source out of the space, especially low ones such as unvented heaters, hot drop lights, grinders, or an appliance pilot flame, and keep an extinguisher within reach.
New Hose On, Then Confirmed Dry
Cut the replacement to match the original length with nothing extra. Slack lets the hose chafe on the frame or contact steering components; a short piece keeps constant tension on both fittings. Push each end on dry until it bottoms fully against the barb shoulder, and keep grease, oil, and silicone away from the fittings entirely, since a lubricated sealing surface hands pressurized fuel a path out. Soften a stubborn end in hot water instead of lubricating it. Place clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly, and where a self-locking quick-connect is used, push until the collar clicks and then tug firmly to confirm engagement, leaving that joint without a clamp. Reseat the hose in every original clip so it clears the front driveline and stays off hot exhaust surfaces.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit while surfaces are still dry, giving you the cleanest possible inspection. Wipe both joints with a fresh rag and look for a bead. Start the engine, let it idle several minutes, and check once more with operating pressure and vibration present before the plastics go back on.
