Access and routing are what make this job easy or awkward on the 2022 CFORCE 500S. The hose itself is simple; getting a clear view of both ends of it, and putting the new line back exactly where the old one lived, is what separates a clean repair from one that chafes through in a season.
Finding Both Ends of the Line
Start by taking off the seat, then remove whichever side panels stand between you and the fuel tank outlet. With those out of the way, follow the hose forward to where it meets the throttle body so the entire run is visible before you disturb anything. Pay attention to the clips, guides, and grommets holding it along the way, because the factory path exists to keep the line clear of hot exhaust and moving driveline parts.
This machine is a 4x4 with selectable two-wheel drive, and that matters here. Front differential and driveline hardware create clearance points and a slightly tighter path than a two-wheel-drive quad would present, so the hose has less room to wander. Take a few photographs before removal. Reinstalling a line by memory is where owners end up with a hose resting against something hot.
Injection Means Pressure Stays in the Line
The 2022 CFORCE 500S is fuel-injected. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes the supply hose to the throttle body, and that pressure persists after the key comes off. There is no petcock valve beneath the tank to spin closed and no float bowl drain screw at the bottom of a carburetor, which is the biggest procedural difference from an older carbureted quad where you could shut a valve and pull the hose with barely a dribble. Bleeding pressure here is the mandatory first step, and line-clamping pliers do the isolating that a shutoff valve would otherwise handle. The fuel filter is also part of the in-tank pump module rather than an inline piece on the visible hose.
Why the Original Hose Is on Borrowed Time
Fuel line deteriorates from both sides. Externally, heat cycling from the engine and sunlight strip out the plasticizers that keep rubber pliable, so hose that once squished under your fingers becomes hard and glassy. Dry air makes it worse by pulling moisture from the hose wall, which is why the same 500S shows cracked line years sooner in arid country than in a humid climate. Once flexibility is gone, ordinary chassis flex across ruts and rock turns fine checking into splits.
Internally, ethanol-blended gasoline attracts water and slowly degrades the inner liner, most aggressively when the quad sits with fuel standing in the hose. The line hardens on the outside while softening within, releasing fine debris toward the injector. Because that inner deterioration is invisible, replacing hose based on its age is far more dependable than waiting for a crack to appear.
Symptoms, Tools, and Safe Handling
The signs that bring owners to this job include a gasoline smell that lingers around the machine and is strongest right after shutdown, a wet patch or dried stain on the ground beneath the tank, hose that feels hard or chalky when pinched, bogging under load or a flat spot on quick throttle, and long cranking before a cold start that suggests pressure bled off overnight. Since a pressurized leak often evaporates before it drips, a smell with a dry floor still counts as evidence.
Have this staged before starting:
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure in the factory inside diameter, bought a bit long for trimming
- New clamps in the matching style, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if the tank outlet uses a locking coupler
- Line-clamping pliers, standing in for the petcock this model lacks
- Nitrile gloves, eye protection, and plenty of rags
- A sealed fuel-approved container and a wide drain pan
- Razor knife, small flat-blade screwdriver, and sockets for the seat and plastics
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools at floor level exactly where you will be kneeling, so work outdoors or with the door fully open rather than trusting a cracked window. Shut off heaters and appliances with standing pilots, unplug chargers, keep sparking tools clear, and take fuel-soaked rags outside as soon as they are wet.
Removing the Old Hose
Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay and crank the engine until it stalls from fuel starvation, then key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. Slide the drain pan into position and drape a rag over the fitting you plan to open first, since standing fuel remains in the line even after the bleed.
Move worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before twisting the connection loose, so the clamp is not working against you. On a quick-connect, depress the release tabs squarely and pull straight off, never at an angle, because collars grow brittle with age and crack under side load. Varnish commonly bonds old hose to its barb; a gentle twist usually breaks that grip, and a lengthwise razor slit lets you peel away a truly stuck hose without prying on the fitting underneath.
Installing the New Line and Proving It
Cut the replacement to the original length. A hose that is too long sags into a frame tube or drifts toward hot exhaust and wears through eventually, which is exactly the failure you just fixed. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and install it dry. Grease, oil, and silicone belong nowhere near a fuel fitting, because any film on the sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path to creep past the hose wall. Dip a stiff end in hot water for a few seconds and it will seat with hand pressure.
Position new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly rather than crushing the rubber. If the tank uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until the collar clicks and pull firmly to confirm the latch engaged, leaving that joint clampless. Then reroute the hose through every original clip and guide before the plastics go back on.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, letting you study both joints while they are still dry. Wipe each connection, then start the engine and inspect again at idle and with a few throttle blips. One closing note: with the filter inside the tank alongside the pump rather than inline, new hose cannot clear a restriction there, so persistent delivery trouble after a clean install points at the in-tank unit.
