Before you order hose or reach for a screwdriver, confirm what you are working on. The 2022 Outlander MAX 570 is fuel injected, its Rotax 570 V-twin fed by an electric pump mounted inside the tank. There is no petcock, no gravity feed, and no serviceable inline filter on the visible hose, so the procedure differs meaningfully from what you would do on an older carbureted quad.

How This Fuel System Is Laid Out

Fuel is pushed rather than dropped. The in-tank module contains both the pump and the filter, and it pressurizes a single supply hose that runs forward to the throttle body. Because there is no valve under the tank, stopping fuel flow means either draining the tank or pinching the hose with proper line-clamping pliers. And because the circuit holds pressure after the engine is shut off, bleeding it down is the mandatory first step rather than an optional one.

Fittings on this generation may be simple barbs with clamps or self-locking quick-connect couplers depending on where in the run you are working. Identify what you have before ordering hardware so you are not improvising with the tank half apart.

Preparation, Tools, and a Genuine Safety Note

  • Nitrile or rubber gloves plus eye protection
  • Hose rated for fuel-injection pressure in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps of the correct style, or a quick-disconnect release tool for locking couplers
  • Line-clamping pliers, taking the place of the fuel valve this machine lacks
  • A catch pan and a sealed, fuel-rated container
  • A razor blade, a small flat-blade screwdriver, sockets for the seat and panels, and plenty of rags

Gasoline vapor is heavier than air. It slides down off the machine and pools in a layer along the floor where you will be kneeling, and after a few minutes your nose stops warning you about it. Work outdoors when you can, or open the shop enough that air moves at ground level rather than counting on a window above your head. Shut off furnaces and water heaters with standing pilot flames, keep grinders and torches out of the space, and set a fire extinguisher beside the machine rather than on a distant wall.

What Causes a Hose to Fail

Heat is one half of it. Cycle after cycle of engine warmth drives the plasticizers out of the rubber, so the wall loses flexibility and stiffens toward brittle. A brittle hose cannot absorb the flex a utility chassis delivers over rough terrain, and cracks appear at the surface before working their way through. In dry, low-humidity country this shows up years sooner because arid air draws moisture out of the rubber.

Ethanol is the other half. Alcohol in pump gas attracts water, and fuel left sitting in the line during a quiet stretch degrades the inner liner, softening it and releasing material toward the injectors. Since that damage is entirely internal, appearance alone is not a reliable indicator of a hose's condition.

Signs the Line Is Going

  • A puddle or damp patch under the machine after it has sat
  • A fuel smell around the tank that will not clear, worst just after shutdown
  • Visible cracking, chalkiness, or a hardened spot along the hose
  • A ring of caked grime at a fitting where fuel has seeped and dried
  • Bogging under throttle, a lean stumble, or the engine acting like the tank is nearly empty

A pressurized leak often mists and evaporates without leaving anything on the ground, so a fuel odor alone justifies a full inspection.

Removal and Installation

Relieve pressure by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it starves and quits. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. Take the seat and side panels off, position the catch pan, and drape a rag over the first fitting before you open it, since the hose still holds fuel.

Slide clamps back along the hose before disturbing any joint. For a quick-connect, press the tabs squarely and pull straight off the nipple — never lever sideways, because aged plastic collars split. If dried varnish has bonded the hose to a barb, twist gently to shear the bond, and slit it lengthwise with a blade if it will not release. Photograph the routing as it comes out, particularly at the front of the chassis, since this selectable 4x4 carries front differential hardware that adds clips and clearance points a two-wheel-drive quad does not have.

Cut the new hose to the original length. Push each end fully onto its barb past the retention bead and install everything dry. Grease, oil, and silicone on a sealing surface give pressurized fuel a path to escape from under a clamp, so no lubricant belongs anywhere near the fittings. Hot water eases a tight fit safely. Set new clamps just behind the bead and tighten evenly without crushing the rubber. Self-locking quick-connects take no clamp, only a positive click and a confirming pull. Return the hose to all its factory guides so it stays off the exhaust and clear of the driveline.

Confirming the Repair

Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the line. Inspect both joints with a light while the area is still dry, wiping each fitting with a clean pale rag and looking for staining rather than a drip. Then start the engine and repeat the inspection at idle, where vibration exposes marginal seals.

Give it several minutes of leak-free running before the panels go back on, then check once more after a short ride with everything warm. If the machine still feels short on fuel afterward, remember that this injected 570 carries its filter inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than inline on the hose. Fresh line addresses leaks and cracked rubber; a restriction upstream is a separate repair worth pursuing.
