Routing is the part of this job most owners underestimate. On a 2021 KingQuad 750AXi the fuel hose does not simply run in a straight shot from tank to engine; it threads through clips and past hardware in a specific path, and reproducing that path exactly is what keeps the new line off the driveline and away from hot metal.

Tracing the Hose Path on a 4x4 Chassis

Lift the seat and follow the hose from the tank outlet toward the throttle body with a flashlight. Note each retaining clip, each point where the line passes close to a frame tube, and any place it crosses near the exhaust. This is a four-wheel-drive machine, so a front differential and the frame structure supporting it occupy space that a two-wheel-drive layout leaves open, and the hose route accounts for that with a slightly longer run and additional clearance points.

Photograph the whole path before you disturb anything. A hose reinstalled a couple of inches off its intended line will find something to rub against, and abrasion is a slow leak waiting to happen. Getting the routing right is not cosmetic on a fuel system.

This Machine Is Injected, Not Carbureted

Suzuki's AXi badge means electronic fuel injection, and that fact governs the sequence of every step below. No petcock lives under the tank on this 750, so there is no valve to close. An electric pump submerged in the tank keeps the supply hose at regulated pressure whenever the key is on, and residual pressure persists after shutdown. Relieving that pressure electrically is mandatory before a fitting comes apart.

Note also that the filter element sits inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than in an inline canister on the visible hose. Replacing the line resolves cracking and seepage. A restricted filter is a separate job, and confusing the two leads to a lot of wasted effort.

Why Fuel Hose Hardens and Cracks

The rubber loses its softening compounds gradually as heat cycles drive them out of the material. After enough seasons the hose wall goes stiff and slightly glassy, and a stiff hose can no longer move with the frame the way it did when new. Vibration from working terrain then opens hairline splits at the bends, and those splits widen with every ride until one reaches through the wall.

External conditions and fuel chemistry both accelerate the process. Arid climates draw moisture out of the rubber and harden hoses well ahead of what a rider in humid air would experience. Ethanol works the other direction: E10 gasoline absorbs atmospheric water, and a machine parked for an off-season with that blend inside slowly degrades the hose liner from within. The visible exterior can look intact while the inside sheds particulate toward the injector.

Signs to Watch and Supplies to Gather

Symptoms of a failing line include a gasoline smell around the seat area that lingers after shutdown, a wet stain or small puddle beneath the frame overnight, visible crazing or chalky discoloration, a section that will not compress under a firm pinch, and an engine that bogs under load or stumbles as though starved. Because the circuit runs pressurized, a pinhole often sprays a mist that evaporates before it drips, so an odor without a puddle still counts as evidence.

Have all of this ready before you begin:

  • Gloves and eye protection
  • A drain pan and a sealed, fuel-rated container
  • Injection-rated hose in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps of the correct style, plus a quick-connect release tool if a locking coupler is fitted
  • Line-clamping pliers to substitute for the missing fuel valve
  • Metric hand tools, a razor knife, rags, and a work light

Work outdoors or right inside an open door. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and pools at floor level, then travels until it finds an ignition source, so shut down pilot lights and space heaters, unplug chargers, and keep an extinguisher close. Store drained fuel sealed rather than leaving it in an open pan.

Taking It Apart

Begin by relieving pressure. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it dies on the fuel remaining in the rail, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. With the circuit inert, remove the front fender sections and side panels blocking access to the tank outlet and the hose run.

Slide your pan into position and lay a rag over the first fitting you open, because a depressurized hose still holds fuel that will run out immediately. Move any clamp well back along the hose before disturbing the joint. For a quick-connect coupler, depress both tabs squarely and pull straight off without side load; levering cracks collars that have grown brittle. Twist a reluctant hose end on its barb to break the varnish bond, and if it holds firm, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it off instead of risking damage to the fitting.

Putting the New Line In and Testing It

Cut the replacement to the original length exactly, using the old hose as your template. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out against the shoulder, and assemble everything dry. Nothing lubricated goes near a fuel fitting: grease, oil, and silicone on a sealing surface hand pressurized gasoline a route out from under the clamp. If a hose end fights you, thirty seconds in hot water softens it enough to slide on unaided.

Set fresh clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, snug without cutting into the rubber. Where the tank end uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until it clicks and then tug firmly to verify the latch engaged; that style needs no clamp. Return the hose to every original clip so it holds the path you photographed.

Test before you ride. Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off five or six times without cranking so the pump pressurizes the line while everything is still dry and clean. Inspect both joints, wipe them, and recheck by fingertip. Start the 2021 KingQuad 750AXi, watch the fittings at idle, blip the throttle, and look a third time. Once several minutes pass without a trace of dampness, reinstall the plastics, take a slow lap of the yard, and check both connections one last time.
