Fuel hose is one of those parts nobody thinks about until it fails, and when it does fail on a trail ride it tends to do so at the worst possible moment. The 2020 CFORCE 600 is worth a few minutes of attention here, because the plumbing between its tank and its engine is not the simple gravity setup older utility quads used. Understanding that difference before you pick up a wrench keeps this job clean and predictable.
Knowing Your Fuel System Before You Touch a Hose
CFMOTO built the 2020 CFORCE 600 around a 580cc liquid-cooled single with electronic fuel injection. There is no petcock tucked under the tank waiting to be turned off, because the machine does not rely on gravity to move fuel. Instead, an electric pump mounted inside the tank pressurizes the supply line and holds that pressure even after the key is off. Every step below is written with that in mind, and skipping the pressure-relief stage is what turns a tidy repair into a soaked garage floor.
The CFORCE 600 is also a selectable 2WD/4WD machine, so a front differential, driveshaft, and the associated frame bracing sit forward of the engine. That hardware does not change the hose itself, but it does mean the supply line follows a slightly more guarded path along the frame tunnel than it would on a two-wheel-drive quad. Note every clip and grommet before you free the old line.
Where Fuel Hose Loses Its Life
Rubber fuel hose is compounded with plasticizers that keep it flexible. Heat cycling from the engine bay slowly drives those compounds out, and what began as a pliable hose becomes stiff and brittle. Riders in arid regions watch this happen faster, since low humidity pulls residual moisture from the hose wall and hardens the outer surface from the outside in. Add constant chassis flex on rough ground and those hardened areas start to craze.
Ethanol-blended pump gas works on the hose from the inside. E10 attracts water and gradually chews at the inner liner, so a line can be soft and swelling internally while looking dry and healthy from the outside. Fuel left sitting in the system for a season also leaves gum and varnish behind at the fittings, which is why a hose on a CFORCE 600 that gets seasonal use may age faster than one on a machine ridden year round.
Symptoms That Point at the Line
- A wet patch or small puddle beneath the skid plate after the quad has been parked overnight
- A gasoline smell that lingers around the tank area, usually strongest just after shutdown
- Hairline cracking, chalky texture, or a section that feels glassy and hard when you pinch it
- Bogging under throttle, a lean stumble at higher rpm, or the engine acting like the tank is nearly empty when it is not
- A dusty, crusted ring around a fitting, which is dried residue from fuel that has been weeping slowly
Because the CFORCE 600 runs a pressurized circuit, a small pinhole may atomize fuel rather than drip it. Your nose will often catch that long before your eyes find a stain, so treat a persistent fuel odor as a real lead rather than a nuisance.
Gathering Gear and Setting Up Safely
- Nitrile or rubber gloves, since gasoline strips skin oils fast
- Replacement hose rated for injection pressure and matched to the original inside diameter
- A sealed metal or fuel-rated container for anything you drain
- Fresh clamps in the correct style, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if your CFORCE uses a locking coupler at the tank
- Line-clamping pliers, which stand in for the petcock this machine does not have
- Sockets and a screwdriver for the seat and side plastics, plus a stack of clean rags
Work outside or with the garage door fully open. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air and settles at floor level, so ventilation near the ground matters more than a cracked window overhead. Keep heaters, grinders, chargers, and anything else that sparks well clear of the work area.
Taking the Old Hose Off the Machine
Begin by relieving pressure. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine for a couple of seconds until it stalls, turn the key off, then disconnect the battery negative cable. Remove the seat and the side panels needed to expose the tank outlet and the run of hose heading toward the throttle body. Slide a drain pan underneath and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, because residual fuel will still come out.
Slide worm-gear or spring clamps well back along the hose before disturbing anything. If you find a quick-connect coupler, press the locking tabs squarely and pull straight off rather than levering sideways, as aged plastic collars crack easily. Twist the old hose to break the varnish bond at the barb instead of yanking on it, and if it refuses to let go, slit it lengthwise with a razor blade and peel it away so the fitting survives intact.
Routing and Seating the Replacement
Cut the new hose to match the old one exactly. Extra length looks harmless but invites chafing against frame rails or interference with the steering. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out, and do it dry: grease, oil, or silicone on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a path to creep past the clamp. If the hose is stubborn, dip the end in hot water for a few seconds to soften it.
Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, firm but not crushing. A self-locking quick-connect needs no clamp at all; push until it clicks, then tug to confirm it has latched. Return the hose to its original clips so it stays away from the exhaust and clear of the front driveline components on this 4x4 chassis.
Pressure Test Before the Plastics Go Back
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, then cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line, letting you inspect both joints while everything is still dry and easy to see. Feel around each fitting with a clean rag, then start the engine and check again at idle for a few minutes before reinstalling bodywork.
One last note specific to an injected machine like this one: the fuel filter on the CFORCE 600 lives inside the tank as part of the pump module rather than sitting inline where you can see it. New hose will not cure a restricted filter, so if fuel delivery still feels soft after a leak-free install, that in-tank assembly is the next thing to inspect.
