The fuel hose on a 2019 Rincon 680 covers a short distance and does a demanding job. It carries pressurized gasoline from the pump module in the tank to the throttle body, holds that pressure after the engine shuts down, and spends its life in a warm, vibrating part of the frame. When it starts to age, replacing it is a genuinely simple repair — provided you respect what is inside it.

The Short Run That Does All the Work

Because your Rincon 680 is fuel injected rather than carbureted, the hose you are replacing is part of a pressurized circuit. An electric pump inside the tank draws fuel through an integrated filter and pushes it out to the injector. There is no petcock in that chain, no gravity feed, and no carburetor float bowl to drain, so stopping the flow means cutting power to the pump rather than turning a valve. Some connections on this platform use a self locking quick connect coupler rather than a hose clamp, which is a detail you want to identify before applying force to anything.

The in tank filter placement is worth remembering. Since it is part of the pump assembly rather than an inline unit on the visible hose, a new line will not resolve a restriction that lives inside the tank. Keep that in your back pocket in case a delivery symptom outlasts this repair.

Routing on a 4x4 Chassis

This Rincon carries full time capable four wheel drive hardware and independent rear suspension, and both crowd the frame. A front differential and driveshaft occupy the forward section, and suspension linkage takes up space behind. As a result the fuel hose is retained by clips along a path chosen specifically to hold it away from rotating driveline components and hot exhaust surfaces. A two wheel drive utility quad would have a slightly more open route through the same area. Photograph the run from two angles before you touch it, because a new hose reinstalled off its intended path can chafe through in a single season regardless of how good the rubber is.

Why Fuel Hose Wears Out

Two separate processes end a fuel line's life. From the outside, the plasticizers that keep rubber flexible slowly migrate out of the compound. The hose stiffens, then turns brittle enough to crack anywhere it bends. Heat cycling from the 675cc engine, ambient temperature swings, sunlight, and ozone all speed that up, and dry climates speed it up the most, since low humidity draws moisture out of the hose wall and leaves a hard, glazed surface.

From the inside, ethanol blended pump gas takes over. Alcohol content absorbs moisture from the air, and fuel left standing through a long layup begins breaking down the inner liner while gum and varnish collect at each barb. That is how a hose ends up hardening outside and degrading inside simultaneously, capable of sending fine particles toward an injector orifice measured in fractions of a millimeter.

Symptoms and Getting Prepared

  • A gasoline smell around the tank and seat, strongest right after shutdown while pressure remains
  • Fuel puddling on the skid plate or a dark stain running down a frame tube
  • Fine cracking, a chalky finish, or a section that feels rigid instead of springy when pinched
  • Bogging as the throttle opens, hesitation under load, or a stall that mimics an empty tank
  • A dirt caked ring at a fitting where seeping fuel has dried in place

Since the supply side is pressurized, a leak can atomize and evaporate before it drips, so a persistent odor with a clean floor is still meaningful. Have this on the bench before you begin:

  • Hose rated for fuel injection pressure in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps sized to the fittings, plus a quick connect release tool if a locking coupler is present
  • Line clamping pliers, since there is no fuel valve on this model to stop flow
  • Nitrile or rubber gloves, eye protection, a drain pan, and a sealable fuel container
  • Small sockets, a flat blade screwdriver, a sharp utility blade, and plenty of rags

Relieving Pressure and Removal

The safety note that matters most here concerns the gasoline itself. Its vapor is heavier than air, so it rolls off the machine and settles along the floor where you barely smell it and where a spark from an appliance or a tool is most likely to reach it. Open the door completely and put a fan at ground level moving air out of the space. Shut off any water heater or shop heater with a standing flame nearby, keep an extinguisher within arm's reach, and cap your recovery container each time you set it down.

Now relieve the pressure. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the starter for a few seconds until the engine stalls or refuses to catch, turn the key off, and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the seat and the plastics over the tank, slide the drain pan in, and lay a rag over the first joint you open, because a depressurized hose still holds fuel. Move each clamp well back before disturbing a fitting. On a quick connect, squeeze the locking tabs evenly and pull straight off with no side load. Twist the hose a quarter turn to break the varnish bond at the barb and draw it off steadily; if it has bonded on, slit it lengthwise and peel it away rather than prying on the throttle body or pump module.

Fitting the New Hose and Verifying It

Cut the replacement to match the original length exactly. Extra hose chafes or kinks, and a short piece holds constant tension on both barbs. Push each end on dry until it bottoms against the shoulder, using a brief dip in hot water as your only assist. Nothing lubricating goes near a fuel fitting — grease, oil, and silicone all create a path for pressurized fuel to escape and let the hose creep off the barb over time. Set new clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten evenly, firm enough to seal without cutting the wall. Where a self locking coupler is used, push until it clicks and tug firmly to confirm the latch engaged.

Reseat the hose in its clips, refit the pump fuse, and Reconnect the battery. Cycle the key on and off several times without starting; each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line so you can inspect both joints while they are clean and dry. Wipe them and look again, then start the engine and check a third time at idle with the machine vibrating. Take a short slow lap, shut down, and give both connections one last inspection before the bodywork goes back on.
