The first question to answer on a 2019 Outlander MAX 570 XT is not which wrench to grab but how fuel actually reaches the engine. This machine is fuel-injected. A pump module mounted inside the tank pressurizes the line and sends fuel directly to the throttle body, which means no petcock, no float bowl, and no gravity feed anywhere in the system. Everything downstream in this procedure follows from that.
Working on a Pump-Fed System Instead of a Carburetor
On a carbureted quad you close a valve, crack a drain screw, and the fuel system goes quiet. This XT gives you neither. Pressure stays bottled in the line after you shut the key off, sometimes for hours, so you have to bleed it off intentionally and use line-clamping pliers to create the shutoff the machine does not provide.
Parts selection follows the same logic. The replacement hose must carry an injection pressure rating, since low-pressure carburetor line will balloon under pump pressure and eventually seep at the fittings. The tank outlet on injected Outlanders may also terminate in a self-locking quick-connect coupler rather than a barb, which releases differently and needs no clamp when it goes back together. Determine which style your machine uses before you order clamps.
Why the Hose Deteriorates in the First Place
Fresh fuel line is flexible because plasticizers are blended into the rubber, and those compounds slowly leach out across years of service. A stiffened wall stops absorbing movement, so the Rotax's heat cycling and the frame flex that comes with rutted trail riding start opening hairline splits, typically at the tightest bend in the run. Arid climates speed the whole sequence, since low humidity pulls moisture out of the hose and hardens it from the outside in.
Ethanol content in modern pump gas creates a parallel problem. The alcohol attracts water and gradually degrades the inner liner, which can soften and shed while the exterior grows brittle. A MAX 570 XT that sits for extended periods with fuel standing in the line experiences both forms of decay at once, and loosened liner material has nowhere to go but toward the injector.
Signals That the Line Needs Attention
- A gasoline smell around the seat area that never quite clears, sharpest in the first minutes after shutdown
- A small puddle or damp streak beneath the machine once it has been parked a while
- Surface cracking, crazing, or a chalky bloom on the hose
- A section that stays rigid and glassy when pinched rather than springing back
- Bogging on hard acceleration, lean running, or an engine acting starved while fuel remains in the tank
- Dirt collected in a dried fuel ring at a fitting, which betrays a slow weep
On a pressurized circuit, escaping fuel commonly atomizes and evaporates before it forms a drip, so an odor with no visible puddle is still worth chasing.
Tools, Materials, and Handling Gasoline Sensibly
Collect the following before starting:
- Rubber or nitrile gloves and safety glasses
- Drain pan plus a sealed container rated for fuel
- Injection-rated hose in the original inside diameter, purchased slightly long
- Correctly sized new clamps and a quick-disconnect tool if a locking coupler is fitted
- Line-clamping pliers to stop flow where no petcock exists
- Hose cutter or razor, screwdriver, sockets for seat and panel hardware, rags
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, which means it sinks and travels along the floor rather than venting out an open window overhead. Work outdoors if the weather cooperates, or roll the overhead door fully up so air moves at ground level. Put out pilot lights, turn off space heaters, unplug battery chargers, keep an extinguisher close at hand, and let the engine cool completely before you open anything.
Depressurizing, Then Getting the Old Hose Out
Pull the fuel pump fuse, crank the starter for a second or two until the engine stalls, turn the key off, and disconnect the battery negative cable. That sequence takes the pressure out of the circuit and is the difference between a clean job and a fuel bath.
Remove the seat and the side bodywork that shrouds the tank, then trace the hose forward to the throttle body so the entire route is clear in your mind. Slide the drain pan into place and drape a rag over the first fitting you open, because a depressurized line still holds a slug of fuel. Move existing clamps well back before touching the connection.
Release a quick-connect by pressing its tabs evenly and pulling straight off, never at an angle — aged collars crack when levered. Break the varnish bond on a barbed fitting with a gentle twist. If the hose stays welded on, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it away rather than risking damage to the fitting.
Take note of the routing as it comes free. The two-up MAX chassis stretches the run and adds clips, the 4x4 driveline places front differential hardware and extra frame crossmembers in the path, and the XT trim adds winch and bumper hardware near the front. Photographs of every clearance point pay for themselves during reassembly.
Fitting the New Line and Proving the Repair
Trim the replacement to match the removed length exactly. Excess hose rubs on frame tubes or snags on hardware, while a short piece keeps the fittings under constant tension. Slide each end fully onto its barb dry, until it bottoms out against the shoulder. Do not use grease, oil, or silicone anywhere on these fittings — lubricant on a sealing surface gives pressurized fuel a route to creep out. Dip a stiff end in hot water for a few seconds instead and it will seat by hand.
Set new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten them evenly, firm enough to seal and no tighter. A self-locking quick-connect pushes on until it clicks, then gets a solid tug to confirm the latch engaged, with no clamp added. Return the hose to every original clip so it stays away from exhaust heat and the front driveline.
Finish with a proper leak check rather than a glance. Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off five or six times without cranking; each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line while the surrounding area is still dry. Inspect both joints, wipe them clean, and inspect again. Start the 570, check at idle, and check a final time after several minutes of warm running before the panels and seat go back on.
Last point on this platform: the fuel filter is integrated into the in-tank pump assembly, not an inline element you can reach on the visible hose. Fresh line cures leaks and cracking but does nothing about restriction, so lingering hesitation after a clean install points at that in-tank module as the next step.
