Anyone can pull a fuel hose off a 2018 Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS. Putting the new one on so that it stays dry under pressure, does not chafe, and does not weep after the first heat cycle is where the actual skill lives. A handful of small decisions during installation determine whether this repair lasts years or leaks by the weekend.
Seating the New Hose Correctly
Start by cutting the replacement to match the piece you removed, with no extra length added. Slack lets the hose drift into a frame tube and chafe, or wander toward steering components; too short and it puts constant tension on both fittings every time the engine moves on its mounts. Cut it square, not at an angle, so the end seats evenly.
Push each end on dry until it bottoms completely against the shoulder of the barb, not just far enough to look engaged. The one temptation worth resisting hardest is lubricating the fitting. Grease, oil, penetrating spray, and silicone all leave a film on the sealing surface, and that film gives pressurized fuel a channel to creep along. On a gravity-feed machine you might get away with it. On a pressurized injection circuit you will not. If a hose end refuses to go on, dip it in hot water for a few seconds to soften the rubber, then push it home while it is still warm and pliable.
Position each clamp just behind the raised bead on the fitting so it clamps the hose over the barb rather than beyond it, and tighten evenly — firm enough to seal, not tight enough to cut into the wall. If the tank outlet on your machine uses a self-locking quick-connect coupler, the rule is different: push it on until the collar clicks, then pull firmly to confirm the lock has engaged. That joint takes no clamp at all, and adding one only damages the coupler. Finish by reseating the hose in every factory clip and guide so it stays clear of the front driveline and well away from exhaust heat.
Understanding This Machine's Fuel Circuit
The Brute Force 750 4x4i EPS is fuel injected, which is why the installation cautions above matter so much. No petcock exists beneath the tank. An electric pump inside the tank pressurizes the line running forward to the throttle bodies on the 749cc V-twin, and the circuit holds pressure long after the key is off. The fuel filter is integrated into that in-tank pump module rather than sitting inline on the visible hose, so a clogged filter is not something new hose will fix.
Being a 4x4 chassis, this machine carries a front differential and driveshaft along with additional frame crossmembers, so the hose passes an extra clearance point or two compared with a two-wheel-drive quad. Keep that in mind when you route the new line back into its clips.
Why the Old Hose Failed
Two processes work against fuel line at once. On the outside, the plasticizers that keep rubber flexible slowly leave the wall over the years, and what remains is stiff and glassy. Heat off the V-twin drives that along, and dry climates push it further by drawing residual moisture out of the rubber. A hardened hose cannot absorb the vibration a heavy utility machine generates on rough ground, so fine surface checking eventually opens into a crack.
On the inside, ethanol-blended pump gas degrades the liner. The alcohol content absorbs moisture and slowly breaks down the inner surface, with fuel standing through long unused stretches doing the most damage. That liner then sheds fine rubber into a system feeding injector orifices measured in thousandths of an inch.
What a Failing Line Looks Like
- A wet patch or small puddle on the skid plate or shop floor after the machine has been parked
- Fuel odor near the tank, sharpest right after shutdown while pressure is still held
- Cracking, a chalky bloom, or a rigid section you notice when flexing the hose
- A grit-caked dark ring at a fitting, left by fuel weeping and drying repeatedly
- Bogging under load, hesitation on hard throttle, or fuel starvation symptoms at higher rpm
Because the system is pressurized, a small leak often atomizes and evaporates before it drips, so a persistent smell with no puddle is meaningful.
Tools, Supplies, and Gasoline Safety
Have this ready before you begin: hose rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter, new clamps sized for your fittings, a quick-disconnect release tool in case of a locking coupler, line-clamping pliers to pinch off a low-pressure section since there is no petcock, nitrile gloves, safety glasses, a sealed fuel container, a drain pan, screwdrivers, a socket set for plastics and tank hardware, a sharp blade, and plenty of rags.
Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it settles along the floor rather than venting out an upper window. Open the door completely and get real airflow through the space, or roll the quad outside. Remove ignition sources with an eye toward the low ones especially: unvented heaters, hot drop lights, grinders, or an appliance pilot flame nearby. Keep an extinguisher within reach and cap the drained fuel container immediately.
Depressurizing, Removal, and the Final Leak Check
Before anything comes apart, pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, crank the engine until it stalls, turn the key off, and disconnect the battery negative. Remove the seat and side plastics, slide a pan underneath, and lay a rag over the first fitting you open, since residual fuel remains even after bleed-down. Slide clamps well back before disturbing a fitting; with a quick-connect, press the tabs squarely and pull straight off rather than levering sideways. Twist a varnish-bonded hose gently to free it, or slit it lengthwise and peel it off if it will not release. Note the routing as it comes out.
With the new line installed, reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and loads the circuit, letting you inspect both joints while surfaces are still dry. Wipe each with a clean rag and look for a bead. Start the engine, let it idle, and check again with operating pressure and vibration in play. Only after several minutes of dry running should the plastics go back on, and if fuel delivery still feels soft, the in-tank filter is the logical next suspect.
