Before a wrench touches your 2017 KingQuad 750AXi, it pays to understand what you are opening into. The AXi designation marks this as an electronically fuel injected machine, so the plumbing between tank and engine is a live pressure circuit rather than a gravity drop. A pump mounted inside the tank pushes fuel to the throttle body whenever the key is on, there is no fuel valve to close first, and the sequence you follow determines whether this job stays tidy or turns into a mess on the garage floor.

How the 750AXi Routes Its Fuel

Fuel leaves the in-tank pump module through a short, reinforced hose, travels along the frame under the seat, and terminates at the throttle body feed on the 722cc single. Because this is a 4x4 platform, that run threads past front differential hardware and extra chassis bracing that a simpler two-wheel-drive quad never has, and the power steering unit occupies more real estate ahead of the engine. Every clip and clearance point along the way exists for a reason, and you want to know exactly where they sit before the old hose leaves the machine.

Setting Up the Job and Handling Fuel Responsibly

Collect the following before starting:

  • Rubber or nitrile gloves
  • A sealed metal can or fuel-rated container to catch what drains
  • Injection-rated replacement hose in the matching inside diameter, not general purpose carburetor line
  • New clamps in the original style, plus a quick-disconnect release tool if your machine uses a locking coupler at the pump plate
  • Line-clamping pliers to pinch off a low-pressure section, since this model has no petcock
  • Hand tools for the seat and fender panels, along with plenty of clean rags

Gasoline vapor sinks and spreads across the floor, which makes low-level ventilation the real safety measure. Roll the KingQuad outside or open the shop door completely, and keep water heaters, space heaters, and anything that sparks well away from the work area for the duration.

Depressurizing and Removing the Old Hose

Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay first, then crank the starter briefly until the engine quits. That bleeds most of the residual pressure. Turn the key off and disconnect the negative battery terminal before going further. Lift the seat and remove the plastic panels that cover the tank top and the hose run.

Position a drain pan under the connection and lay a rag over the fitting as you loosen it, because even a bled line still carries fuel that wants to escape. Slide worm-gear or spring clamps back along the hose before you disturb anything. If your 750AXi uses a quick-connect at the pump flange, press the release tabs evenly and pull the fitting straight off; sideways prying cracks aging plastic collars. Break the varnish bond on each barb with a gentle twist rather than Brute Force, and if the hose has cemented itself in place, slit it lengthwise with a razor and peel it away instead of risking damage to the fitting. Snap a photo of the routing while the old line is still clipped in.

Fitting the Replacement

Match the new hose to the original length exactly. Extra length looks harmless on the bench and then rubs a frame tube or drifts against the header once the plastics go back on. Slide each end fully onto its barb until it clears the raised retaining bead, and do it dry — never grease, oil, or silicone the fittings, since any lubricant on a sealing surface hands pressurized fuel an escape route past the clamp. A short soak of the hose end in hot water is all the help you should need with a stiff line.

Place the fresh clamps just behind the bead at each joint and snug them uniformly. Overtightening a worm-gear clamp can bite into the hose wall and start the next leak. Where the machine uses a self-locking quick-connect, push it home until the collar clicks, then pull firmly to confirm it has caught; no clamp belongs on that style of fitting. Seat the hose back into every original guide so it stays clear of the front driveline, steering linkage, and exhaust.

Why Fuel Hose Wears Out in the First Place

Rubber fuel line ages from the outside in and the inside out simultaneously. Heat cycling next to a hard-working single drives off the plasticizers that keep the hose supple, and once those are gone the material stiffens into something closer to glass than rubber. Dry climates compound this, since arid air pulls residual moisture out of the hose wall and speeds the hardening until small fissures open at the bends.

The inner liner faces a different attack. Ethanol-blended gasoline draws water into the fuel and degrades the bore over time, and a KingQuad that spends months parked with fuel sitting in the line ends up gummed inside while the exterior grows brittle. That debris travels toward the injector, so on a machine now several seasons deep, replacing a hose that merely looks acceptable is a reasonable call.

Reading the Symptoms of a Line About to Fail

Once you know how the hose degrades, the warning signs make sense. Fuel pooling under the frame after a night in the garage is the obvious one. A persistent gasoline smell around the seat, sharpest immediately after shutdown, comes next. Visible cracking, a chalky surface, or a hardened section that no longer springs back when pinched all point the same direction. Running problems show up as bogging under load, a lean stumble on a climb, or the machine behaving as though the tank is nearly empty when it is not. On an injected 750AXi, a pressure-side seep frequently evaporates before it can drip, so a strong fuel odor without a visible puddle still warrants pulling the panels off.

Confirming the Repair Holds

Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the new hose while everything is still visible and dry. Check both joints with a clean rag and a bare fingertip, then start the engine and look again at idle before reinstalling any bodywork. Several minutes of leak-free running is the standard to hold yourself to.

Keep in mind that the filter on this injected KingQuad lives inside the tank as part of the pump assembly rather than sitting inline where you can service it. Fresh hose solves a cracked line but does nothing for a restricted filter, so if fuel delivery still feels weak at higher rpm, the in-tank module is the next component to investigate.
