Every step of this job on a 2017 KingQuad 750AXi hinges on one detail: the hose you are replacing is part of a pressurized circuit, not a gravity feed. Suzuki's AXi badge means electronic fuel injection, an electric pump living inside the tank, and no fuel valve anywhere to close. Plan around that and the rest is manageable.

Relieving Pressure the Right Way

Because there is no petcock on this 750, the first move is electrical rather than mechanical. Pull the fuel pump fuse or unplug its relay, then crank the starter for a few seconds until the engine stumbles and dies on the fuel remaining in the rail. Switch the key off and disconnect the negative battery cable. At that point the supply line has dropped to atmospheric pressure and the pump cannot restart while your hands are in the way.

Line-clamping pliers still earn their spot in your kit. Pinching the hose upstream of the fitting you are opening keeps whatever fuel remains in the tank side from siphoning out while you work, and it gives you a controlled way to stop flow if a connection surprises you.

Understanding Why the Hose Failed

Fuel line gives out for reasons that have nothing to do with abuse. Rubber depends on plasticizer compounds to stay pliable, and those compounds migrate out of the material over years of heat cycling. As the wall stiffens it loses the ability to flex with the chassis, and a rigid hose develops hairline splits at every bend point. Given enough seasons, one of those splits reaches all the way through.

Where the quad lives changes the timeline. Dry, high-desert air draws moisture out of the hose and accelerates the hardening dramatically compared to a machine stored in humid conditions. Ethanol attacks from within: E10 pump gas absorbs atmospheric water, and a KingQuad parked for an off-season with that blend inside slowly loses its inner liner to the alcohol and water combination. The outside stiffens while the inside softens, and the hose can look perfectly acceptable while it sheds particulate toward the injector.

Symptoms Owners Notice First

  • Gasoline odor around the tank and seat area, sharpest in the minutes just after shutdown
  • A wet spot or shallow puddle on the skid plate or floor after the quad has sat overnight
  • Fine cracking, chalky discoloration, or a hardened length that will not compress under a firm pinch
  • Bogging under load, a hesitation when you crack the throttle, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm
  • Grit stuck in a damp band around a fitting, a telltale sign of ongoing seepage

On a pressurized system a pinhole often sprays a mist that evaporates before it drips, so a strong fuel smell over a dry floor still means a real leak. Do not talk yourself out of it.

What to Have Ready

  • Gloves and eye protection
  • A drain pan and a sealed, fuel-rated container
  • Injection-rated replacement hose in the original inside diameter
  • New clamps in the correct style, plus a quick-connect release tool if the tank uses a locking coupler
  • Line-clamping pliers, since no petcock exists on this model
  • Metric hand tools, a razor knife, rags, and a flashlight

Take the gasoline handling seriously. Vapor from an open fuel line is heavier than air and pools at floor level, where it can travel a surprising distance to reach a pilot light or a sparking motor. Work outside or right inside an open overhead door, shut off water heaters and space heaters, unplug battery chargers, and keep an extinguisher nearby. Store drained fuel sealed, never in an open pan left on the bench.

Removing the Old Line and Mapping Its Path

With the system depressurized, raise the seat and remove the front fender sections and side panels blocking the tank outlet and the hose run toward the throttle body. Set your pan underneath and lay a rag over the first fitting you open, because a depressurized hose still holds fuel that will run out immediately.

Slide clamps well back along the hose before disturbing anything. Quick-connect couplers need both tabs depressed squarely and a straight pull; prying sideways splits collars that have grown brittle with age. Twist a reluctant hose end on the barb to break the varnish bond rather than pulling harder, and if it still refuses, run a razor along its length and peel it off. That protects the fitting, which is far more expensive to replace than a length of hose.

Trace the routing as the old hose comes free. This is a 4x4 machine, so a front differential and extra frame crossmembers sit in the neighborhood and the line follows a slightly longer path with more clearance points than a two-wheel-drive quad would need. Photograph every clip and guide before the old hose is fully out.

Seating the New Hose and Checking Your Work

Cut the replacement to match the original exactly. Extra length finds a frame tube to rub or drifts toward hot exhaust, neither of which you want on a fuel line. Push each end fully onto its barb until it bottoms out against the shoulder, assembling dry. No grease, oil, or silicone touches a fuel fitting, because lubricant on the sealing surface hands pressurized gas a path out from under the clamp. Thirty seconds in hot water softens a tight hose end enough to slide it on.

Position new clamps just behind the raised bead on each fitting and tighten evenly, snug enough to hold without cutting into the rubber. A self-locking quick-connect at the tank needs no clamp; push until it clicks, then tug firmly to confirm the latch engaged. Return the hose to its factory clips so it stays clear of the driveline and hot metal.

Reinstall the pump fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the ignition on and off half a dozen times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the line while everything is still dry, making any seepage easy to see. Wipe the joints and recheck by touch. Start the 2017 KingQuad, watch both connections at idle, blip the throttle, and inspect a third time before reinstalling plastics.
