Bleeding Down and Breaking the Hose Free
Relieving pressure comes first, always. Pull the fuel pump fuse or relay, then crank the engine briefly until it stalls from fuel starvation. Turn the key off and disconnect the battery negative cable so nothing can energize the pump while your hands are in the fuel path. Remove the seat and the side plastics that block your view of the tank outlet and the hose run heading back toward the throttle bodies.

A hose that has bonded itself to a barb with fuel varnish should be twisted gently to shear the bond rather than hauled on, and if it still refuses, slit it lengthwise with a sharp blade and peel it away. The fitting is worth far more than the hose. Photograph the routing before the old piece is fully clear, noting each clip and the clearance points it passes.
What Injection Means for This Job

The softened liner releases fine rubber into a circuit that pushes fuel through injector openings measured in thousandths of an inch, where debris has nowhere forgiving to land.

- A dark, dust-caked ring at a fitting, which is the residue of fuel weeping and drying repeatedly
- Bogging under load, a stumble on hard throttle, or the engine acting starved at higher rpm
On a pressurized system, a small leak may atomize and evaporate before it can drip, so a strong smell with no visible fuel is a legitimate symptom.
Parts, Tools, and Working Safely
You need hose rated for injection pressure in the original inside diameter rather than general-purpose carburetor line, new clamps matched to your fittings, a quick-disconnect release tool if the tank uses a locking coupler, line-clamping pliers for pinching off a low-pressure section since no petcock exists, nitrile gloves and eye protection, a sealed fuel container and drain pan, screwdrivers, a socket set for the plastics and tank hardware, a sharp blade, and a good pile of rags.
Ventilation deserves real attention. Gasoline vapor is heavier than air, so it sinks and pools along the floor where you are kneeling rather than escaping out a high window. Open the door fully and get airflow moving, or work outside. Clear low-level ignition sources from the space — unvented heaters, hot drop lights, grinders, torches, or a nearby appliance pilot flame. Keep an extinguisher within reach and cap the fuel container as soon as it is filled.
Installing the New Line and Proving It Holds
Cut the replacement to match the length of the piece you removed, adding nothing. Excess hose chafes on the frame or fouls steering components; too little keeps constant tension on both fittings. Push each end on dry until it bottoms fully against the barb shoulder, and keep grease, oil, and silicone away from the fittings entirely, since anything slick on a sealing surface hands pressurized fuel a path out. Soften a stiff end in hot water if you need help. Set clamps just behind the raised bead and tighten them evenly, and where the tank uses a self-locking quick-connect, push until the collar clicks and then pull firmly to confirm it has latched, leaving that joint clampless. Reseat the hose in every original clip so it clears the front driveline and stays off hot exhaust surfaces.
Reinstall the fuse, Reconnect the battery, and cycle the key on and off several times without cranking. Each cycle runs the pump and pressurizes the circuit, giving you a dry-surface inspection of both joints. Wipe each connection with a clean rag and watch for a bead forming. Then start the engine, let it idle, and check again with full operating pressure and vibration present. Several minutes of leak-free running earns the plastics going back on.
